Sushi originated from ancient China but over time it moved over Japan to become a treat that most people find delicious. But other people don’t enjoy sushi for multiple reasons that are probably their own personal preference.

 

 Sushi surprisingly became a food because it was originally used to preserve fish by laying rice down under and on top of fish but, then people started to eat the food together.  Who knew that people used to use sushi as a food preserving method.     

 

Sushi and I have never really gotten along so well. For me having the idea of putting raw fish in my mouth was a big NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT.  

 

But now I want to try to like sushi so I can expand what types of food I like.  But it might be a bit of a challenge.

 

I try to look on the bright side of sushi like the fact that California rolls are inside out sushi rolls. They have crab meat, avocado, and cucumber in them which to me sounds sort of good. I wanted to try it. 

 

But, when I got to Umami I was looking at how they made the sushi and that made me feel so sick to see how they were moving around the raw fish.

Maybe I should just look at some sushi for a litttle bit

So that got me thinking about the different ways sushi is prepared.  When you prepare sushi you must be thinking about how to “cook” it. You might not need to “cook” the sushi because sushi is raw fish, so it doesn’t need to be cooked.

 

 

 

 

 

 

But then HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU NOT GET SICK FROM SUSHI THEN? I had to look this up. So I found that sushi is cooked a little bit so you don’t get sick and if you were 99.9% sure that sushi is raw fish than you're wrong! The food that is only raw fish is called sashimi. Sashimi is thinly sliced fish if you were wondering.

I should probably think of sushi as a superfood. Since it helps with all of these thing I guess it is really a superfood.

The greatest things that I should be definitely happy about is the actual good things about  sushi. Which include some health benefits of sushi are that it lowers blood sugar and helps prevent getting certain kinds of cancers.

“Nigiri which is fish on a ball of some sushi rice, sashimi which is fish just by itself, maki ,seaweed- wrapped variety, uramaki which has rice on the outside, temaki which is sushi that is hand rolled into a cone-like shape.” All of these types of sushi sound a little funny but I guess some people (like my sister) enjoy them. But they are other types of sushi to try.

The others things the make sushi good is that there are many different kinds of sushi like.

I’m just trying to tell myself there are so many good things about sushi that are extremely beneficial for your health. Like the fact that it can help with bone strength and help your immune system get stronger. 

Certain things about sushi that are good include that everywhere in the world there is a 90% chance that you have seen or eaten a piece of sushi or seem a piece of sushi. Before I looked at all of these benefits I just would say that “Sushi just makes you sick there are no health benefits in sushi.” But now I know that there are many health benefits in sushi  to look out for.

It also held with building strong bones and improving your immune system. These things are in all types of sushi. And if you don’t enjoy sushi like me than these are some reasons to look out for.

 

Healthy things on food are the best things to look out for. Like the healthy things in sushi are that they help aid you with your gastrointestinal system and boost your blood circulation. 

The worst things about sushi is that it is VERY high in carbs without any protein or veggies so you will be wanting a lot of sugar after eating larger amounts of sushi. 

Normally when making sushi two tablespoons of sugar and rice vinegar are added when making two cups of sushi rice.The type of rice that is used in sushi is short grain rice that spikes blood sugar.  So you MUST be careful of these elements in sushi so you don’t get sick.

 

Sushi has a lot of things that can make you sick or things that you aren’t looking for in a food. Sushi is also EXTREMELY salty because of all of the and soy sauce used. 

 

The majority of the ingredients in sushi like crab sticks for example are processed foods. The things that are fried like tempura are fried in vegetable oil. Edamame or any soy products are genetically changed in the U.S. so I will sometimes avoid them even if they taste good.

Once again, I have made a mistake.

Sushi has good things and bad things in it just like almost every other food.  But you have to make sure that you have a good variety of things in the sushi. A mix of good and bad things should always be in food.   

 

Now the very worst things about sushi that you should consider next time you are about to eat some is. Sushi rice spikes blood sugar levels, most products are processed foods like crab sticks, teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayo have a lot of sugar in them. 

Sushi has some things in it that aren't the best for you. You need to make sure that if you are planning on eating large amount of sushi than you should plan on eating some protein after because sushi is very low on protein.

But it is very high in sugar and salt. Sushi is also very low in fat so that is something to consider when eating sushi.

For being raw enough to make you sick

U.S. knives are sharpened on both sides but surprisingly sushi knives are only sharpened on one side. 

Sushi has some cool features that I could look at that might make me like it. Sushi has always been bought off the streets in Japan so in 1923 an earthquake in Japan made sushi come off the streets.

 

          Sushi meals didn’t always have to start with miso because ending with miso would help with digestion.

 Wasabi is a very popular dip for sushi but there is already a lot of wasabi on your sushi because sushi chefs put some wasabi on your sushi before serving it to you so there is no need for you to add anymore.

 Because they are such strong swimmers. But now they are the most wanted fish in China and Japan for sushi and sashimi.

 

 Did you know that the word sashimi means cut body which is weird but makes sense because sashimi is raw fish and you need to cut the body of the raw fish. A long time ago fishermen needed to avoid bluefin.

 And the fact that sashimi isn’t always raw fish it could also be RAW beef,chicken, or maybe sort of cooked octopus is also a little worrying for me. Sushi and sashimi knives must be resharpened daily so they could cut small pieces of raw fish..

Sushi’s closest relative is sashimi which is only raw fish. Raw fish has a billion health concerns so I’m thinking that’s the reason why I wouldn’t enjoy eating sashimi. 

The majority of all the bluefin that is caught in the U.S. is used for making sushi and sashimi so that's one extra food that might be in your sushi.

Sashimi is definitely interesting with it being ONLY raw fish. Sashimi is usually served as an appetizer before eating sushi.  Sushi and sashimi are served in very intricate designs so you want to eat them more than you already do! 

 

China was the first place that sushi was used for preserving fish and then Japan started to eat the fish and rice together and found out that what they thought was a delicious discovery for some people, but others don’t enjoy sushi.

Sushi’s history is very interesting the way that sushi has been changing in form for a very long period of time. 

 

When World War Two was over the sushi stalls needed to be put inside because them being outside was to unsanitary and better seating was available if you wanted to have a sit down dinner or lunch. So that was a huge plus.

In the 1900s sushi was sold in sushi stalls that were on the street like a mini market. 

 

Sushi was very influential for other foods in other cultures around the world. So there might be some foods that are extremely close to sushi in other cultures.

 

 Like in the U.S. we have sushi that isn’t very traditional. But in Japan they have a very traditional sushi  called narezushi.

 To make loads of different foods that are also similar in different ways.

 

Sushi’s history is really long about 1800 years to be exact. But the way that we make sushi today is very different from how people make sushi today. It's not that often that a food that is part of one culture moves around to a bunch of different cultures. 

 Like soup,avocados(sometimes),peppers, and about  10 more foods that I don't enjoy. But I guess I will take it one step at a time to try to like all of these foods.

I think that this book made me like sushi 100x more than I did. Now I think that I will be able to eat sushi now. But there are still foods that I don't enjoy.

But the thing that I really don't like is Guacamole. That avacado taste is digusting to me in a dip.

Step One: Prepare the ingredients. (Seaweed, raw fish, rice,and veggies.) 

Step Two: Lay the seaweed on the mat or towel.

Step Three: lay down the rice on top of the seaweed.

Step Four: Get the veggies and seafood of your chocie and lay them on hte rice.

Step Five: Roll the towel or sushi mat up with the ingredients.

Step Six: take the towel out and find a rolled up sushi roll.

Step Seven: Cut the sushi roll into little pieces or however large or small you want.

Step Eight: Enjoy your wonderful treat that you just prepared yourself. (or that you made your mom or somebody else make the sushi for you.)
