Still Here
Last night during dream time I found myself
having a conversation with my daughters mother-in-law
who passed to spirit in the fall of last year. It was one of
those lucid dreams where, though I was deep in sleep, I
knew I was dreaming.
We were sitting on the couch, enjoying a cup of
tea and talking about the grandchild that is on the way.
Suddenly, it ocurred to me to ask her a question to verify
that I had in fact been speaking with her, something that her
son would know but I wouldn’t. In my mind I was thinking,
“After all, she’s not really here, she’s in spirit.”
As soon as this thought went through my mind she
disappeared. After a brief flash of disappointment came a
clear realization as to why. Because I said so! I said she was
not really here.
The reality is of course that, though she may be in
spirit, she is still very much here. Call it what you like -
vibrating at a different level, in a different dimension, on
the other side.
Our minds have been trained to think that we have
to be able to reach out and touch something to make it a
reality. I’m sure some mediums can do just that. But most
of us need to communicate with spirit in other ways. In
order to do so though, we have to get it out of our heads
that they are gone from us forever…because they are not.
How long does it take us to retrain our minds to
accept this fact? I am sure the answer for each of us is as
diverse as we are. What I do know is that I have had too
many visits and messages from spirits to doubt the fact that
they are here, And I appreciate that even in my dream I was
able to reset my thought patterns and enjoy the rest of our
visit.
Keep well,
Dorothy Jeanne Engst

I
Volume 2, Issue 6 - True Blue Spirit - Page 5
n 1989 my life was at such a low point, I
thought there was no way out. I saw myself
falling into a bottomless black pit. One day I was so
overcome with despair that I threw myself on the
floor and cried out, “Help me, God!”
That evening a strange sensation entered my
body. I became filled with light and hope. I knew
God had answered my prayer, because that powerful
light had not come from me. It gave me the strength
to start my life over again.
A year later I was back home in the Pacific
Northwest, embarking on a journey to discover who
or what had entered my body. I was a blank book in
spiritual matters.
For a couple years I read voraciously and
attended spiritual classes, but no book or class
contained the loving light I had experienced earlier.
Moreover, the vibration coming through the books
and classes did not feel comfortable to me.
What did feel comfortable was walking. I
started seeking out parks and forests in the area to
explore. The more time I spent in nature, the more I
was filled with joyful light. I felt love radiating from
the trees.
Then a miracle happened. Virtually over-
night, etheric beings entered my life, speaking to me
telepathically and appearing in luminous bodies.
Responding to my desire to learn, they became my
teachers. I entered a world of adventure and magic.
These beings of light call themselves spirits.
They explain that two separate but parallel lines of
evolution exist on this planet—spirit and soul, both
seeking spiritual advancement. The soul line
includes everything physical from ants to archangels
and the very earth herself. Souls have magnetic free
will and can attract karma.
Spirits embody the intelligent energy that
permeates creation. While souls also contain Spirit,
spirits have nothing of the soul. They are pure spirit,
the servants of God.
Spiritual advancement for spirits is indicated
by their size and intensity of light, from tiny earth
mites to planet-sized guides and beyond. To differ-
entiate between the different levels of advancement,
I refer to enlightened spirits as devas, from the
Sanskrit “shining ones”, and to the little workers as
nature spirits or fairies.
Each spirit belongs to one of five realms:
earth, air, fire, water and ether. The first four realms
are held in harmonic equilibrium by the fifth. We
interact with the first four realms in our daily life,
but the realm of ether is mostly hidden.
All spirits, whether deva or fairy, male or
female, have vivid lives and perform their jobs with
loving care. They can feel joy, sadness and anger.
They can take mates and change jobs. They
endeavor to work cooperatively with humans to care
for our planet and everything on it at every level of
density.
Humans are cared for by a group of spirits
from birth to death. Earth fairies nurture your body,
air fairies guide your breath, fire fairies charge your
electromagnetic system and water fairies guide your
body fluids.
Meanwhile, an earth
deva watches over
your physical body,
a water deva cares
for your emotional
body, an air deva
guides your
mental body
and a fire deva
inspires your
spiritual body.
Standing

of the same sex as the

or she will guide you throughout life if you listen
intuitively. You are never alone.
Fairies are denser than devas, so are more easily
seen—if they choose to be seen. What they look like
depends on your cultural expectations. The book, “Forty
Years with the Fairies” by Daphne Charters, compiled by
Michael Pilarski, is an intimate description of fairy life
and evolution.
Devas have a finer density and their glowing
auras appear like wings. Two books illustrate devas, as
seen by the artists: “The Kingdom of the Shining Ones”
by Flower A. Newhouse, and “The Kingdom of the
Gods” by Geoffrey Hodson.
If you want to actively cooperate with the spirit
realms, a good place to start is to admire the work of
fairies. Notice the world of nature as you walk in silence
and solitude. Fairies are excitable and love to be appreci-
ated and praised. They can sense your genuine affection
and admiration.
That will draw the attention of devas who are
then more likely to work and communicate
with you. They demand respect and
ceremony rather than praise, but they’re
not above making witty comments,
especially the sharp-tongued fire
devas.
Two decades ago my life
was saved by a great fire deva
who specializes in rescuing
people from darkness and despair.
Now I live in joy. In gratitude I have
devoted myself to learning more about
these luminous beings and to sharing
that knowledge with others.
Radiating throughout the
universe is a light composed of love,
joy and compassion. Through working
with devas and fairies we can access
that light, and with their help, raise the
vibration of the whole planet.

s the time approaches when we send our
precious little or big ones back to school, the
magical world of herbs can play a very helpful role.
Yes, herbs can help to boost their immune systems
and offer nutritious treats, but what else?
We can do more than pack up their school
bags and buy them some new clothes. Herbs can
help them begin their new journey and help us
parents to know in our hearts that they are okay.
Their herbal back to school kit could contain things
such as Rescue Remedy, which I call a hug in a
bottle, available from health food stores; a picture of
the family; a herbal protection pouch; a confidence
spray; a heart energy herbal tea in a water bottle and
a special note that says I-love-you.
The night before school starts you could
give them and yourself a smudge by burning some
cedar, bay, cinnamon and cloves for protection and
stimulating the feeling of love. You can very
carefully burn these herbs in a seashell or heat proof
dish—just be careful! Allow the smoke to move
around both you and your child.
The weekend before school starts you and
your child could make the herbal pouch together. As
A
the two of you are putting the pouch together, talk
about the fun you had during the summer. This will
make the magic of the pouch even stronger. There
are many different herbs you could add to the pouch.
Here are a few: cedar, cinnamon, cloves, bay, St
John’s wort, hawthorn, frankincense, angelica, basil
and rosemary.
A confidence spray could be made quickly
out of essential oils, water, a spray bottle and a
splash of vodka or brandy. Fill a 2 oz bottle with
spring water, and a tablespoon of alcohol. Then add
40 drops of lavender essential oil and 20 drops of
rose oil essential oil. This should only be used by
older children, who can keep it away from their
eyes. I suggest keeping it in their locker away from
other children.
Heart energy tea is a simple tea which can
be cooled and made into an ice tea. I like to use 1
part lavender flowers, 1 part spearmint and 1/2 part
organic rose petal. You can make a large cup of tea
and after it has cooled add some home made lemon-
ade and you have a healthy, yummy heart energy
drink for school.
Now just write a special
little note and away they go.
I hope some of these ideas
help to make the school
journey just a little
easier on you
and your
loved ones.
Good luck.

Natures Essence
T
Yang Partner-
Metal Element
by Sabina Pettitt
he Yang partner of the Metal element is the
large intestine channel and its archetypal
energy is “letting go.” Physically it lets go of the
waste byproducts of digestion but in the energetic
template of Chinese medicine it is also being able to
let go of any thought, emotion, behaviour or activity
that is not life supporting.
The peak time of functioning in the twenty-
four hour body clock is 5 am to 7 am which, in some
texts I have read, suggests that this is the best time for
physical elimination. It makes sense when we
consider the body/mind as a whole and we want to
begin a new day with no attachments or concerns
from the past to cloud our experience.
Consider again the prime emotion of the
Metal element, grief which paralyzes some people and
prevents them from getting on with the fullness of
their own life experience after the loss of a loved one.
The sea essence, Starfish, addresses this particular
kind of hanging on. Its gift is the ability to release and
let go just as in nature the season autumn releases the
life force to prepare for rest when all the plants either
die off or go to sleep for a season. The message from
the Starfish nature spirit is:
Let my star bless you with the ability to let go.
Life is a dance, a journey, a symphony.
How can you experience it to the fullest if you are
clinging to any single moment?

The seven month program is a one of a kind program
designed for Light workers/Healers and individuals
searching to make a dierence in their life and the
lives of others, while raising the vibrations of Mother
Earth, the Universe and all that is. This extensive
program will awaken the power within so that
you may live and work from the heart, connect
to the source and nally have the feeling that
you belong.
It has been said, As we heal ourselves we heal Mother
Earth and the Universe.
Apart from the relationship to grief, the large
intestine channel reflects what we value and how we
see ourselves and are seen by others in the world.
Large intestine is the energetic template in the
body/mind for self worth and self esteem. There is no
possibility of expressing our true selves and our real
potential if we are constipated with judgments and
opinions or are not clear about our own values. Vanilla
Leaf is a beautiful spiky white flower which emerges
from beneath three umbrella-like leaves. Its message
is:
Do not feel small in relation to others.
Make no comparisons.
Allow yourself to manifest your perfect
infinite potential.
Express yourself. Show yourself.
Stand straight and tall in the spotlight of your Self.
In keeping with the archetype of “letting go”,
the last essence I choose to spotlight to support the
energetic template of the large intestine channel is
Grass Widow, a beautiful six petalled magenta flower
Volume 2, Issue 6 - True Blue Spirit - Page 13
which blooms in early spring on rocky mossy ground.
Grass Widow offers us the gift of freedom and
supports us in examining our beliefs and letting go of
those which do not serve us.
Expand your mind.
Examine your beliefs.
Push against the edges of your reality.
It’s self-created, you know.
The real role of the large intestine is to keep
our body/mind healthy by eliminating what we don’t
need and can’t utilize so that this “stuff” doesn’t
become rotten and toxic. As a doctor of traditional
Chinese medicine, I have often noticed that, when a
patient lets go of some limiting belief or some old
grievance, the functioning of their whole body/mind is
transformed.

Natures Essence
S
he concept of forgiveness sounds so simple.
“Forgive and forget.” “Turn the other
cheek.” “Live and let live.” But what does it really
mean to forgive someone? Do I actually have the
authority to forgive? Who am I to judge if I have
been wronged? Is it possible for me to let someone
off the hook for how they choose to behave? What if
they don’t feel remorse?
When people talk of forgiveness I some-
times hear judgment: “You are wrong to feel
upset/angry/hurt. Your feelings are not valid.”
Sometimes the subtext is an underlying, “I’m more
spiritually advanced than you are.” What is our
reason for wanting ourselves or others to forgive? Is
it to be morally or ethically right? Or is it to find
peace and purpose?
Forgiveness is not like flipping a switch on
or off. It is a process of acceptance about “what is”
that often includes working through painful feelings.
It means taking care of yourself, just as you would
care for any other loved one. Self-recrimination for
painful feelings is just as destructive as making
someone else “wrong”. Feelings are our gift from
God that tell us something needs attention.
If someone points a gun in my face, I give
myself permission to walk away or do whatever
necessary to protect myself. Sometimes the most
loving thing to do for ourselves or others is to create
T
by Janet Laidlaw
distance. I also give myself permission to feel pain
about creatures and people who experience harm,
and that includes me. This pain is a reminder that I
am a sentient being who cares.
If feelings are a gift from God, then
reactions are a gift from self. I have total power over
what I do with my feelings. What happened in the
past is over. Whatever I feel now is about the
present. What can I constructively do now to
address my perceived injustice?
If I can’t speak to the person face to face,
then I can use other tools. I can communicate soul to
soul by writing down everything I want that
individual to hear and release it to “Source”, trusting
it is received through our infinite connectedness. I
can also make a request of the universe. I write in
present tense what I’d like to see happen; always
with intention for the greatest good. For example
“May Tammy fully realize that I truly care about
her. May she learn truth, humility and respect for
others. This or better in the highest good of all.”
Another question to ask oneself: “Did I
learn or gain something from this experience? Could
this experience propel me to change something, or
to empathize with others who have been through
something similar?” Making even the smallest
meaning from an event can shift it from a victim
experience to one where we own our power.
I cannot annul someone else’s karma. I can’t
eliminate the effect from a cause that someone else
has created. But I can control my own reaction and
affect my own karma, and my choices will ripple out
into the universe. I can find peace within pain and, as
I face pain fully, I can transform it and use it produc-
tively to make my life or the lives of others more
peaceful and meaningful.
To me forgiveness is not so much a “doing”
but a state of mind, best achieved by accepting “what
is”, treating others as we wish to be treated, practic-
ing empathy and living life fully. Perhaps we can
achieve this state by trusting that ultimately the
universe will always find balance.

authority to forgive?
Sometimes the most
loving thing to do for ourselves or others is to create

Reiki: What is it? Why try it? Why learn it?
T
hough I had been firmly on my spiritual
path for many years, I did not experience
the joy and sensation of energy passing through my
body for the use and benefit of another until my
initiation to Reiki. It was a profound, palpable and
truly humbling experience; one which served to
cement my awareness of my connection with spirit.
Indeed, the experience of being a clear
channel for loving energy during the course of a
session was so compelling that I devoured the
teachings and achieved the level of Master in both
Usui and Karuna Reiki within the span of one year.
In addition to my practice I also teach Reiki and
have found that my passion
for teaching this
wonderful art of
healing is even
greater than
the pleasure I derive from giving a treatment.
Today, there are almost as many forms of
Reiki as there are practitioners. Usui Reiki, which
follows the lineage of Dr. Mikao Usui, is currently
taught and to some extent regulated by the Interna-
tional Center for Reiki. It is an ancient practice of
stress relief and energy healing “remembered” (read
channeled to) by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th
Century.
The Reiki practitioner is attuned to certain
sacred and secret symbols which permit the flow of
“Reiki”, or universal love energy from the Go
Consciousness, through the practitioner to the client
or patient. Reiki can be
performed hands on or
hands off and will be
equally effective in
either form.

The theory behind Reiki is that the God
Consciousness or universal love energy flowing
through the practitioner to the patient, has its own
intelligence and, in conjunction with the uncon-
scious “knowing” of the patient, works where and
how it is needed to provide the relief sought. At its
most minimal, a Reiki session will leave the client
feeling relaxed and slightly euphoric. At its most
potent, a Reiki session can relieve a client or patient
of illness, pain whether physical, emotional or
spiritual, or suffering, even of long standing.
Reiki is a loving and gentle way to achieve
awareness of the source of one’s problems or
maladies and to effectively transform those prob-
lems or afflictions to happiness or health if the
client or patient is truly willing to release any
blocks in order to achieve this state.
In teaching Reiki I have found it to be an
excellent vehicle to help students focus both
themselves and their energy in a way that is
discernible and constructive. The connection with
Source cannot be denied when one feels the loving
Reiki energy running through his body or out of her
hands in the service of another who is experiencing
pain or suffering. Indeed, I learned Reiki because I
wanted to be a practitioner. I did not realize how
much I would come to revere the teachings and the
practice and how solemnly I would take my role as
teacher and Master.
I cannot think of a soul who would not
enjoy or benefit from a Reiki treatment or a person
interested in doing energy work that would not
profit from learning Reiki. It is a magnificent and
ancient art and practice and, as you can tell from
my enthusiasm on the subject, something I heartily
recommend for people of all ages. My only caveat
would be to find a practitioner who is certified and,
as you would with any professional, make sure they
are bona fide and use your instincts as to whether he
or she is a good fit with you.

our voices and a day for all of us to remember the
magic in music.
eing a musician, I find that I some-
times take for granted the power of
music. It is easy to get caught up in the details
of each piece and, while performing creates an
enticing environment, concentrating on the fine
details can keep you out of the magic in the
moment. As always the universe provides an
opportunity for me to remember.
I recently joined a trio that performs
songs in three-part harmony. We arrived on the
momentous day of our first gathering (I call it
that because in retrospect it was a gathering of
souls to carry out a mission and not just a
rehearsal). We took a few minutes to get to
know one another and to become familiar with
the beautiful pieces of music. There was an
obvious excitement building. You could feel it
in the air—a clear palpitation, an expectation
of what was to come.
There are times in our lives when the
planets seem to align, where the opportunity to
move forward is effortless, where we are so

to do is breathe and we shoot forward in our

Once we had settled in, we formed a circle,
each holding our sheet music. We took a divine
breath in and sang. From the first chord that our
voices created, I felt different. My vibration shifted.
Even though I was in the musical moment, I could
clearly feel the shift within. Every phrase we sang on
that day was magical. The sound that we created
had a life of its own or shall I say an energy and
vibration so unique that I had chills running up my
spine. I felt my heart center opening even more than

eceiving a compliment is like a hug for
your soul. Have you ever thought about the
way you receive a compliment? Do you
simply reply “thank you” and receive it.
Or do you unconsciously throw it
back to the giver?
Imagine for a moment
someone says to you, “I just
love your outfit. Is it new?” And
your reply is, “Oh this old thing? I
got it on sale a couple of years ago.”
Or how about, “Wow!
Did you get a new haircut or
something?! You look great!” And
your reply is, “Yes, I did, but it was
really expensive and I don't like
my bangs.”
In these
replies you
have not
accepted what
the giver was
giving you. In a
day how many
times have you said
to someone,
“Have a nice day,”
and their reply to
you is “Same to
you.” Do you see
how you, the giver
in this case, were
not acknowledged?
When we receive
what is given with a
“Thank you!” first,
we are truly receiving
what the giver is saying.
Volume 2, Issue 6 - True Blue Spirit - Page 23
I would like you to try this technique each
and every time someone gives you a compliment,
receive it with thanks and follow it with no
disclaimer.
Next time someone says to you, “Have a
nice day,” acknowledge first with a “Thank you!”
and then reply from your heart, “Same to you!”
Notice how that person reacts. It's usually with a
surprised smile and a thank you back.
On an unconscious level, what we are
doing by replying with a thank you is receiving a
hug for our souls and filling us with a sense
of value and well-being that acknowl-
edges both the giver and
receiver.
So most important of all:
Do this daily.
Do this hourly.
Do this often.

elcome to the world of numerology. I am
currently working my way through a series of
articles referring to the Ruling or Life Path numbers.
In this article I will introduce you to, or add to your
understanding of, the influential qualities associated
with the Ruling #8. As it is part of the ‘soul plane’
energy it represents ‘wisdom’.
I love to look at the #8 as it is symmetrically
and symbolically the most beautiful of numbers. When
I turn it sideways and gaze softly, I feel infinity
beckoning me into its mysterious realms; upright, its
conjoined spheres represent the two dimensions of our
reality: spiritual and earthly.
Financial success and manifestation of dreams
are the strengths associated with the # 8 and it is the
number I get the most questions about when discussing
name changes. The most prevalent thing I’ve found in
8’s is their fierce independence, confidence and the
drive to succeed; when their dreams are inspired by
spiritual forces, they seem unstoppable. For some, the
dream of financial freedom drives them unmercifully
and little time or thought is given to balancing the rest
of their lives. Happiness may indeed be replaced with
a sorrow that makes this kind of success seem
irrelevant.
Sometimes the softer side of their nature
predominates, bringing out their compassionate tender
nature, opening them up to a different track entirely.
Spending time with nature, babies, animals and the
elderly helps to reconnect them with their core values.
Number 8’s are hard workers and are well suited as
administrators and holding senior executive positions.
Feeling right at home in boardrooms or operating their
own businesses, large or small, brings them happiness
and a sense of purpose.
They have a knack of ferreting out hidden
talents in others and are happy to bring these into the
open and they often function as mentors. Their combi-

nation of spiritual and earthly connections allows them
to be wonderful teachers, actors, nurses and authors.
On a personal note: I look back at how my
name changed during a prior marriage and find my
Power Number was an 8 and see clearly how its power
influenced my life. For ten years its energy was
strongly felt and there was indeed an abundant finan-
cial and spiritual flow in our lives. I became the
business manager in our two-person music business
and learned the ropes by listening to my guides who
became my financial mentors. When the marriage
ended the 8’s financial influence disappeared from my
life for a long time. Ironically, keeping the name did
little to prolong its effect. For a while, I lacked a sense
of vision and purpose and this is what I attribute to the
lessening of its power in my life.
I concluded that successes are not brought
about by numbers alone. Purpose, intention and hard
work are needed to bring the results we desire, and
sometimes the hand of God reaches in to save us from
what would have been disastrous. Success and failure
are great teachers if we allow them to be.

ou may already have an aromatherapy
product in your home. Most body lotions,
candles or dish soaps contain aromatherapy. But
did you know most healthcare products on the
market today had their start from the traditional
uses of phyto-therapies such as aromatherapy and
most still contain those same ingredients today.
What I endeavor to share with you is the impor-
tance of aromatherapy, better yet to increase your
understanding that aromatherapy truly is just that,
a form of therapy indeed!
Many have bought those cute little medici-
nal 5 ml brown glass bottles of essential oil for
diffuser use to pleasantly scent their homes. Now
that little bottle of oil packs more punch than you
could imagine. Eucalyptus for example kills
98.9% of airborne viruses and bacteria (fashion
and function!)
Grab a jar of a popular cold rub and flip
over the container. You will see the active ingredi-
ents are eucalyptus, rosemary, and lavender in the
baby version and camphor in the adult type. It is
petroleum based, but we are on the right track
here. You could take charge by adding those same
oils to a 100% natural homemade salve, a simple
mix of olive oil and a
bit of bees wax and
you have the same
thing. Even better,
add just 1 drop each
to 1 tbsp of natural oil such
as sesame for a baby, or 2-3
drops each
to 3 tbsp sesame oil for an adult. Apply to chest,
back and throat and you’ll achieve the same
results. Menthol itself is extracted from pepper-
mint and is also commonly used in pharmacologi-
cal preparations as the active ingredient for many
cold and flu remedies. The sad part is, it is often
along with many other synthetically produced
ingredients, hindering the natural ingredients’ true
healing potential.
Here are three things that all households
should know:

It is important to note that essential oils when
administered correctly have 3 main modes of action,
pharmacological, psychological and physiological.
Pharmacological administration exerts a chemical
interaction when the essential oils enter the blood-
stream and then reacts with the hormones, pathogens,
and so on. Physiological assimilation is the way the
oils affect body systems such as the nervous system,
being relaxing or stimulating, or the circulatory
system, increasing blood flow. Psychological adminis-
tration occurs when the simple scent of an oil can elicit
a response, as cinnamon can sooth and peppermint can
increase alertness.

Keep in mind these are highly concen-

essential oil is equivalent to eight pots of tea
which can be equated to eating a football field

precious resources, so be mindful not to waste
any. Just as you wouldn’t take more than the

This is the perfect time for Tiger to come
along, wake us up to danger, and mobilize us to
action (even if it’s running for our lives). Tiger is the
power of the individual, activated by the untamed
energy of nature. As individuals, Tiger reminds us of
the strength of our survival instinct and ignites our
longing to embrace nature’s wild beauty and
freedom.
So here we are now, well into the Year of
the Tiger. We’ve experienced even more
catastrophic events to prove the power of the big cat.
Who could have predicted that a sudden burst of
volcanic activity in Iceland could affect so many
people traveling around the world? One volcano in a
remote area has affected the entire planet in so many
unexpected ways.
Tiger is ushering us into a year of deep
personal healing and empowerment. Unexpected
situations and sudden shifts in perspective can
startle and shock us into seeing ourselves in new
ways. Core issues that have been lurking in the
deepest recesses of our subconscious are being
chased down. And Tigers fearless curiosity inspires
us to take the risks necessary to make changes that
will transform our lives; our planet—and probably
terrify us until we embrace the freedom.

Tiger puts our instincts and emotions
through the whole spectrum of expression as we
delve into our fearsome feelings. Every possible
reaction scurries through us in response to that big
broad nose unexpectedly snuffling into our hidden
affairs. Issues about secrecy and hidden agendas are
being pawed out into the open. Individuals are being
awakened with a start to see the true state of affairs
in many previously hidden corners, personal and
global. Tiger pounces on our unacknowledged
beliefs of powerlessness, forcing us to make quick

This year we all will be paying a lot of
attention to things that make us nervous, anxious,
and downright scared. And all the avoidance ploys
we usually use to escape or numb the fear likely

us face our fears and find our freedom this year. We

n easy way to appear ten years younger is to
think gentle thoughts in a loving way and to
smile. This facilitates not only the appearance of youth
but an inner feeling of cheerful buoyancy that reacts on
every cell in our bodies. They activate and respond in a
positive way, which in turn begins the process of revital-
izing all the organs in our body. This makes us more
radiant and therefore more attractive to others because
we feel better about ourselves.
The energy that we radiate is improved. The
chain reaction that we create when we give away a
cheerful thought with a pleasant smile is truly the
fountain of youth, so often sought after and so seldom
discovered. When we become truly proficient in this
process there is a natural healing that occurs in the body,
mind and soul. This is only one of the benefits of a
cheerful smile and a friendly thought.
If this is practiced in the home with spouse and
family, it will expedite a remarkable example, often
setting in motion a chain reaction of peace, love and
harmony that too often is rare within most homes.
Consider the billions of dollars that are spent on
pharmaceuticals to make us look and feel better, when
often an attitude adjustment that improves our karma
would achieve far better, long lasting results. Powder,
paint and pills can mask and cover, but nothing com-
pares with the inner glow of true happiness that radiates
from within, when we love ourselves and the world
around us.
Let us strive to achieve this personal wealth of
well being, one day at a time. Let our contribution
towards making the world a better place to live in be a
friendly thought and happy smile.

Animal Whispers
eople are always asking me “How do I get
my pet to listen to me and to stop his bad
behaviour?” It's very important to send your pet
only thoughts and images of what you want and not
of what you don't want. Your thoughts and mental
images must always match your words. Most
people give what I call “mixed messages.”
The subconscious mind doesn't understand
“no.” How many times have you told yourself
“Don't be afraid!” and all your mind hears is “Be
afraid!” But if you tell yourself “Have courage!”
your mind will respond accordingly. It's the same
for our pets.
Let's say your cat won't stop scratching the
couch. Using words like “don't,” “not,” or “can't”
and coupling them with other words, creates a
negative concept. The word “Don't” could mean,
“Stop what you are doing”. But as “Don't scratch
the couch”, it becomes a command to do the very
thing you don't want. Your cat won't register the
“don't,” only the “scratch the couch.”
To make matters worse you create
an image in your mind of what you
don't want to happen. So, you
give your cat the command
“Don't scratch the
couch!” and with
this negative
command
you automatically send the picture of him scratch-
ing the couch. What he receives is “Scratch the
couch!” Since there may be anger in your voice he
senses that you really mean it. He then scratches the
couch with gusto, all the while wondering why it's
so important to you. You then angrily yell “no” and
toss him outside. Is it any wonder he's confused?
It's not fair to your pet if you send a mental
command of what you don't want and then punish
him when he acts on it. Sending an image along
with the feeling of what you want strengthens your
command. Use your imagination to turn negatives
into positive alternatives. “Don't scratch the couch”
could become, “Scratch only your post.” “Don't
bark” could become, “Stay quiet.”
Try it; you'll be amazed how well they
listen.

he Tarot’s Tower is like the ancient ziggurat,
a meeting place between deities and
mortals, a place of divine enlightenment. The
Tower is also a channel and container of the Myster-
ies, the Temple of the Self that must be decon-
structed and reconstructed as an authentic expres-
sion of being, through the process of enlightenment.
The crowned Tower is a symbol of the ego
identity and the masks that protect us and allow us
to present ourselves to others as a personality. It is
made of bricks, representing the sturdy enduring
traditional building blocks of thought, culture and
society.
A lightning bolt strikes suddenly from
above as a zigzag of enlightenment. It is made of
divine fire and illuminates everything in one sudden
flash of consciousness. We are stripped of our ego
and brought into intense awareness. The illusion of
identity is made vulnerable for a while, creating an
opportunity for a surge of personal growth.
When the blast of enlightenment arrives, we
may find ours to be a Tower built of ambition,
supposition or fear. It may be constructed from
tity”, or “my story”. We hope the new construct is
more authentic than the last. If the foundation is
strong and the building blocks are authentic, less of
the tower will come down each time.
Sometimes we experience the Tower as a
breakdown. Something may suddenly fall apart in
our lives or in the world. Our boundaries are
challenged by events or actions which can shock
and traumatize us and we are forced into an aware-
ness of our own vulnerability. We realize how
tenuous our sense of protection and safety can be in
the face of powerful forces. The breakthrough can
be devastating if we habitually refuse to see the light
or face up to our true selves.
We can navigate this illuminating force
more gracefully if we consciously bring the Tower
down ourselves, and the more frequently the better.
Often we engineer events subconsciously in order to
undergo this process and reveal our selves to
ourselves.
Enlightenment insists we fall from our
towers of material dependance and ego constructs,
rebuilding on a foundation of truth, integrity and
honesty. Pulling away masks and facades, releases
us from old ways of being that were built on false-
hood, freeing us to create our lives with conscious
intention.
misuse of personal will, built up from beliefs handed
to us by societal or family structure, dogma or
collective mythologies that are illusionary, but
somehow hold up due to mass belief or projection.
The lightning can destroy only that which is
false or constructed with faulty intellectual, emo-
tional or spiritual materials. The fire purifies and
refines or redefines the contents of the tower and
exposes any habitual thought patterns that can no
longer be supported, by breaking them down into
their basic building blocks so we can see what they
are really made of.
A golden crown is
often shown at the tip of
the Tower. Cracked
open by the lightning it
reveals our ego-based
materialistic desires which
have obscured divine truth.
It is the crown chakra, the
center of beliefs and spiritual
awakening that is stimulated
by divine light.
The cosmic consciousness or our higher self
will not allow us to fool ourselves for long. When
the spiritual blast comes it can change our whole
perception of who we are. Turbulence purifies the
soul.
Our ego, thus exposed and defenseless, will
begin to rebuild the Tower soon after the blast,
needing to construct a persona to walk around in,
something to identify as “my position”, “my iden-

exposes any habitual thought patterns that can no
longer be supported, by breaking them down into
their basic building blocks so we can see what they
are really made of.
A golden crown is
often shown at the tip of
the Tower. Cracked
open by the lightning it
reveals our ego-based
materialistic desires which
have obscured divine truth.
It is the crown chakra, the
center of beliefs and spiritual
awakening that is stimulated
by divine light.
The cosmic consciousness or our higher self
will not allow us to fool ourselves for long. When
the spiritual blast comes it can change our whole
perception of who we are. Turbulence purifies the
soul.
Our ego, thus exposed and defenseless, will
begin to rebuild the Tower soon after the blast,
needing to construct a persona to walk around in,
something to identify as “my position”, “my iden-

e moved to Gabriola Island two years ago
to open a restaurant. Renovating an old
A-frame building took five months with the help of
family and friends, while our daughter was only two
weeks old. Now two years later with a healthy boy
added to our family, our vision is still the same: stay
local, help your neighbours and don’t be afraid to
change. We now try to take that extra step, go that
extra mile and make a positive difference in our lives
and those of the people around us. In keeping with
this philosophy we started a garden, give our scrap
food to pig farmers and collect all the grey water
possible.
What we are trying to accomplish is to
consume less while creating more ourselves. Self
sufficient? No, not yet. Sustainable environment
around us? Yes, slowly with baby steps. The point of
this series is that the more we thought about trying to
be environmentally friendly and sustainable the more
we realized our grandparents have been doing this
forever. And then there are those fond memories of
picking cherries in the backyard before dinner or my
mom packing a tomato, a carrot and a handful of
string beans in my lunch. Those were happy times
and the best of learning experiences as well. I can
remember the smell of food in my grandparents’
house whenever we walked in: fresh baked focac-
cia, butternut squash and house-made ricotta
ravioli, fresh arugula salad with caramelized onions
and goat’s cheese. All homemade and grown in
their garden.
Our garden has become a sanctuary for our
minds and souls as we peacefully weed and water
our plants while our daughter runs naked in the dirt.
We are creating positive energy, saving money,
teaching our daughter important values, all while
creating relatively free food which is not geneti-
cally modified or full of pesticides. Two birds with
one stone? We think not, try six.
For now we will be sharing with our
readers our experience as a chef and grower,
sharing recipes and suggesting ways to make eating
environmentally friendly as well as nutritious and
delicious.

Pickled Beet and Green Salad
by Jesse Nixon
Balsamic Vinaigrette
3 tbsp Dijon mustard
½ cup Balsamic vinegar
1½ cups Vegetable oil
Method – Whisk mustard and vinegar together, then slowly
add oil until it is all well mixed.
Roasted and Pickled Beets
Two large or three medium beets washed but NOT peeled.
Method – Preheat your oven to 350° F.
Put beets in a roasting pan with an inch or so of water or do the finger
test which is water up to the end of your finger nail. Wrap the whole
tray in tin foil and bake for one hour or until you can slide a paring
knife into beets easily like a baked potato. Let beets cool while leaving
them covered, which should make them easier to peel. You can peel
them with your hands as the skins should almost “melt” off. Dice beets
as big or small as you would like and then put them into a container to
which we will add the pickling brine.
Pickling Brine
1 cup White vinegar
1 cup Water
1 cup Sugar
Method – Bring ingredients to a boil and whisk until sugar dissolves.
Pour over diced beets and let them cool to room temperature. Refriger-
ate for use the next day.
Finished Salad – Put however many greens you want in a bowl and toss
with a LITTLE vinaigrette. (You can always add more but you can’t
take it out.) Place in bowls or on plates and gently spoon your pickled
beets on top. I like to add freshgrated carrot to the salad as well as
goat’s cheese and some nuts.
This is just a basic model for a versatile salad. You can use different
sugar and vinegar in your pickling brine to change the beet flavours. I
also like to use cinnamon spiced pecans (cinnamon, brown sugar and a
tiny pinch of cayenne pepper).

Healthy Body - Healthy Spirit
tep five of our six step guide to becoming 80%
raw discusses how to stay motivated, not
feeling guilt about food choices, and listening to clues
your body gives you.
The raw diet is not a diet at all. Instead of
focusing on what foods you are cutting out, you can
focus on all the foods you get to incorporate. Rather
than feeling like you have to restrict your diet to eat
raw, you can look at each day as “how much fresh,
organic, raw food can I eat today?” Gradually you may
find that a portion of each meal is raw, or that all your
snacks are raw, and then full meals are all raw.
Eating more raw food is going to make you
feel really great. Many feel so good that all you want
to eat are raw, living foods. Which is wonderful! And if
you love your new way of eating then of course keep it
up. If you find yourself trying to eat 100% raw, but
occasionally eat something cooked, don’t feel bad
about it. It is important not to feel guilt about eating;
the emotional consequences are more
likely to impede your health
than the meal itself.
If you start feeling like you are depriving
yourself, you may end up developing negative feelings
towards eating raw foods. The key is to listen to your
body, if you are craving cooked foods and end up
eating some, just take note of how it made you feel
after. You may become more aware of the signals your
body gives you about what foods make you feel
vibrant and alive, and which ones result in symptoms
such as fatigue, brain fog, headache, indigestion,
stomach pain, or irritability.
Eating healthier means we do become more
sensitive to foods that are not good for us; including
refined sugars and carbohydrates, caffeine, foods with
hidden MSG and additives, gluten, dairy, rancid oils,
and unfermented soy/soy by-products.
Here is a delicious, guilt-free dessert that does
not contain nuts which makes it light and refreshing
for these summer months.

aturn transiting the seventh house of partner-
ships can be a very difficult experience, yet
offers one of the most powerful potentials for
personal evolution. This planetary influence can last
from two to five years, depending on the particulars
of your chart. It is also an influence that most of us
will experience at least once in our lifetimes.
Saturn was traditionally considered a
malefic – it was the planet which brought tears and
sorrow to whatever part of the chart and your life it
touched. What Saturn, however, is really one of the
most powerful teachers we have while embodied
here in this physical plane of existence.
On a personal level, the seventh house holds
the energies of committed partnership and deep
friendships. When Saturn, by transit, travels this
house, it is a time of testing those relationships and a
big part of the testing often looks like disconnection.
This disconnection, however, has a purpose. It
provides those in the relationship a way to step back
to see what’s working and what needs to be resolved
in order for the relationship to evolve to a stronger,
more loving one.
During Saturn’s visit, it brings to our
attention the more damaging parts of our relation-
ship, the parts that we have somehow hidden from
ourselves in order not to rock the boat. These are the
things we settle for and that we hide in our uncon-
scious. Saturn brings to our attention those elements
of the relatonship we have been ignoring: impa-
tience, disrespect, suspicion, untrustworthiness,
brooding, denial, isolation, restriction, thoughtless-
ness, irresponsibility, secretiveness and any lack of
being able to count on our partner.
Saturn’s purpose is to bring these to our
attention in order to work through any blocks that
may be in the way of experiencing a deeper level of
love, compassion and understanding. It is trying to
help us build a more solid, stable foundation within
our really important relationships.
All the challenges that Saturn brings are
simply to assist us to evolve. If we are unaware of
the purpose of the issues Saturn brings to surface
during this transit, we may get caught up in a
negative spiral and, instead of growing and evolving,
this can result in separation and divorce.
Saturn’s visit here might highlight a
partners habit of secretiveness, which perhaps had
initially brought some mystery to the relationship or
had been just a small irritation, but over time instead
has become a source of worry. This secretiveness
eventually builds suspicion, which builds mistrust,
which builds fear, which then creates distance, and
more secrets, denial, lies, more mistrust—the dance
can spiral out of control.
However, if during this transit we start to
become aware that we have a habit of being thought-
less, for instance, and then if we become aware of
the consequences and begin to accept accountability
for this, it can lead to becoming more thoughtful in
the relationship, which allows for truth and honesty.
If we are willing to learn through the mirror
of our partner and walk through the fire of those
deep painful places inside ourselves which need to
be healed, we may find on the other side a level of
partnership that we might never have imagined
before.

Worthwhile Reading
Book Reviews: From Russia with Hope
by Bob Supernant
How does an enigmatic, beautiful recluse living in the Siberian taiga, with only
animals as her companions, communicate an important message to the rest of her country
and the entire world? Well, she draws a hard-nosed Russian businessman deep into the
woods, spends three days giving him her message, conceives a child with him, and then
sends him out to write books that will ‘speak to the world’. Through this most unusual
arrangement we have the Ringing Cedars Books. Much of the second book The Ringing
Cedars of Russia is about Vladimir Megres inquiries to verify some of Anastasias claims and
how his process of writing the rst book came about. His business goes bankrupt, which
eventually leaves him destitute and living on the streets. Hes befriended by an ex-KGB
colonel who not only saves Megre’s life, but with his nal breath, aids in the future success of
Ringing Cedars. When Megre visits Anastasia again, he foments heated arguments with her
but later has an enlightening conversation with Anastasias Grandfather, who mysteriously
shows up in Moscow. It is dicult to like Megre, given his chunky style of writing, his doubt-
ing mind and his contentious relationship with Anastasia. He does, however give an accurate
account without building himself up or hiding his aws, which are many.
In the third book The Space of Love’ we see the consequences of Megres indiscre-
tions, as a well-funded group of mercenaries attempt to kidnap Anastasia and her son,
treating her like a zoo animal. Vladimir also gets to meet his son for the rst time, who lives
like Anastasia and is babysat by wild beasts. During this visit we are introduced to an impor-
tant concept called the Space of Love—a special place on the planet where we are nurtured
on all levels of being. Anastasia shares her methods of raising children to become condent,
free-thinking people ready to take responsibility for the reality they create. In the third
section of the book, Vladimir visits an unusual forest school that covers a twelve-year curricu-
lum within a year and was built entirely by the students.
The fourth book is titled most appropriately ‘Co-creation. There is much discussion
about our place in the universe, as fully embodied expressions of all the principle elements of
creation. Anastasia insists that most of what we call civilization is an articial overlay that
creates unnecessary dependencies, leading us away from our true way of being. Ever the
practical one, Megre seems to feel that the transition toward her lifestyle is too great for us to
make. Through their discussions, they come up with a compromise which involves acquiring
a small piece of land to set up a kins domain. This has sparked a tremendous back-to-the-
land movement in Russian and parts of Eastern Europe. Anastasia also talks about the science
of imagery which is, for better or worse, the most powerful tool we have at our disposal.
Despite the rag-tag approach by Megre, a clear vision is beginning to emerge from the
books. It is an empowering message at a time when we are digging ourselves into a deep
hole from which we may never recover. These books are full of wisdom and inspirational
ideas to think about, oering up plenty of tools with which to dig ourselves out, back into a
more divinely natural, authentic way of being and thereby create an inspiring vision for the
planet.
