MADD was founded by Candy Lightner whose daughter, Cari Lightner was killed by a drunk driver while walking to a church carnival. The current national president of MADD is Colleen Sherhey-Church. MADD was incorporated on September 5, 1980. Mothers Against Drunk Drivign is the Nation's largest non profit orgainization to protect familirs from frunk driving. In 1980, nearly 25,00 people were killed in alcohol related crashes, 50% of all traffic deaths. However in 2013, 10,076 people were killed from drunk driving, a 55% drop in deaths since MADD was founded. In America today 2015, MADD have helped save nearly 330,000 lives and counting. Many laws have been passed due to MADD and the protest of drunk driving. MADD focus is on drunk driving, drugged driving, underage drinking, and the families of victims.
