As the Transcontinal Railroad was built  across the U.S.

a problem began to happen. Bison were trampling the Transcontinental Railroad. Railroad workers hated the fact that the buffallo were mangling the railroad. They had to hire rflemen to kill the bison from continuing trampling the Transcontinental Railroad.

Bison/Buffalo

The Native Americans way of life was ruined because riflemen were killing bison. Natives used the buffalo to hunt, make clothes out of their fur and, use their meat as food. teh Native Americans lived on open spaces, the Transcontinental Railroad used up all the open spaces that the Native americans lived on.

Homestead Act of 1862

The Homestead Act of 1862 was a law that said you could get 160 acres of land if you work on it for 5 years. People liked the fact that the law was made so they decided to move west. Homesteaders and, Pioneers found new innovations like: The Steel Plow, The Windmill and, The Mechanical Reaper.

Farmers moved west because they wanted free land and wanted fertal soil to farm. Farmers used new innovations to farm in the "Great American Desert". Farmers used: The Steel Plow totill the hard packed earth. The Windmill to bring scarce water to the surface. And the Mechanical Reaper would make the harvest (picking of crops) easier and faster.

        Farmers

Homesteaders or Pioneers are people who were the first people to move to the west and set up a home. People moved west like the Homesteaders because, they liked the fact that the Homestead Act of 1862 said you could get 160 acres of land if you worked on it for 5 years. And they wanted free land. Most people sill hated the fact that anyone couldn't own slaves.

   Homesteaders

Exodusters were Freedmen who exited the south to the west to escape racism. These people wanted a brack or a better place to live and, do stuff like cooking and, farming without being told what to do and, how to do it. Exodusters had to traval by wagon because they didin't make enough money to from being slaves to ride on The Transcontinental Railroad.
