The Gospel

A.  The state of humanity

1.  We are all born into sin

2.  We are seperated from God

3.  The Bible refers to this nature as the flesh

(sinful nature= flesh nature)

4.  The Bible also uses the word flesh as our tent , our mortal bodies

5.  Galatians 5:19-21 lists the acts of the sinful nature

6.  You are under the power of the sinful nature

B.  The law was given for several reasons

1.  To restrain evil

2.  To provoke and reveal the wickedness of the heart

3.  To diagnose the problem

C.  God Awakens

1.  We are dead to who we were originally created to be.  Our Spirits are dead to God.  Death is seperation from God.

Ephesians 2:1-3

You were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of the world and the of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

All of us lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature, following its desires following its thoughts

Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath

2.  God awakened us and revealed at least these three things:

 a.  That He is God and we are not

 b.  Our sin and our lack

 c.  Jesus....the One who made the way

3.  Sometimes the awakening happens quickly and sometimes slowly

D.  Surrender

1.  By faith you were saved.  You trusted Jesus to do what you could not do.

Ephesians 2:8

2.  You saw -  You believed - You trusted

 3.  You were swallowed up by Jesus Himself.  You are now "In Him"

    a.  "In Him" is now where your life will be lived out

    b.  You have been overtaken or invaded

 4.  Jesus did all the work.  You brought nothing to the table.

 5.  The Gospel is Jesus.  The false gospel is Jesus +___________
