Textron Aviation announced new factory and aftermarket upgrade
options for special mission variants of its King Air turboprop aircraft,
including more powerful engines and increased take-off weights.
The Wichita-based company said in a press release that it will now
offer more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67A engines for
its King Air 350HW and King Air 350ER models.

FAA Relaxes Medical Standards for
General Aviation Pilots
The Federal Aviation Administration announced final
Rules making it easier for Private Pilots to meet Medi-
cal Requirements. The Changes are effective May 1st
The FAA issued the rules without public comment because the rules directly imple-
ment Congressional requirements passed in the FAA's last reauthorization bill and
signed by President Obama in 2016. General aviation pilots have been clamoring
for medical reform for years saying that the traditional medical licensing require-
ments were expensive and time-consuming - because they required examination
by a special FAA-approved doctor - and did not improve safety. This change in
medical requirements will make it easier for private pilots to fly and, because of the
educational requirements and operational restrictions, the FAA sees no negative
impact on aviation safety.
A Mixed Forecast for the Middle East
Business Aviation Market
New Airport Infrastructure is creating Optimism
among the Middle East’s Business Jet Operators, but
for Manufacturers Stagnation Concerns remain.
For all the gloom that lower oil prices and falling economic growth in the Gulf has
brought to commercial airlines during the past months, the business aviation mar-
ket appears to be standing on somewhat firmer ground. Although now predicting
slower growth this year than the 15% originally forecast, Ali Alnaqbi, founding chair-
man of the Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association (MEBAA)
says it will still be one of the world’s fastest growing regional markets at 9%.
Global Demand for new Business Jets
will reach 9,100 Aircraft by 2025
The Global Business Jets Market was worth US$ 20.9
Billion in 2013 and is projected to grow steady at
6.86% to US$ 33.8 Billion by the end of 2020. Over the
next Decade, North America is expected to lead the
Market for new Jets followed by Europe & Africa.
While both North America and Europe have a comparable size of economy, the
private jet flight activity in North America is almost 4 times larger. North Ameri-
ca accounted for close to 70% of global deliveries in the private jet market, up from
45% of the market share before 2008. With emerging markets experiencing pres-
sure, North America has steadily gained market share in the past 3 years.
In Europe, it is expected that, new aircraft deliveries will be offset by older jets
exiting the market which will result in almost zero net fleet growth through 2020.
Also, many of Europe’s corporations and companies are presently reluctant to
invest in a plane to be on their own balance sheet. However, instead of owning
their own aircraft, other options like shared ownership or charter programs will
further expand.
It is projected that in the next decade, the business aviation industry in India will
grow three times and emerge as the third largest aviation market by 2020. Although
the corruption crackdown and the new government's policies have slowed the
economic pace of China, outlook is still bright. The Greater China area is expected
to take delivery of 2,420 business jets in the period 2016 to 2032.
The Middle East business jets market has a promising outlook although currently
the business jets fleet in the area represents just 3% of the world total. With the
region's GDP projected to rise at an average of 3.8% over the next two decades,
the prospects of the business jets sector are bright. Saudi Arabia has the biggest
fleet of business jets in the Middle East at 188 aircrafts followed by Turkey at 157
and UAE at 135.

Trump Effect fuels Cor-
porate Jet Business
The Election of Donald Trump to the White House could
give the Private Jet Industry a Boost the Years to come.
The so-called 'Trump Effect' has made industry executives
more upbeat about the outlook, with 80% saying the US presi-
dent will have a positive impact on their aviation businesses,
according to a survey by Corporate Jet Investor.
Mid to heavy jets are expected to be the best sellers in 2017,
as a stronger global economy and new technology and inno-
vation within the aircraft industry also fuel growth in the sector.
Alasdair Whyte, editor of Corporate Jet Investor, said: “Donald
Trump is the first President of the US to own business jets
before becoming elected. He may split opinions, but our re-
search shows the majority of people in the industry think this
will have a positive impact on market growth and there have
been increased enquiries from aircraft buyers since the elec-
tion, particularly for pre-owned aircraft.”
“There are a lot of exciting developments going on to make
business aviation more affordable and more accessi-
ble, allowing clients to charter aircraft more easily," he added.
Trump himself is one of the most noteworthy users of busi-
ness aviation ever. His executive-outfitted Boeing 757 is a
major part of the Trump brand, and it’s clear that his use of the
jet to reach out to potential voters was a major asset in his
successful election campaign. Next to the 757 Trump also
owns a Citation-X corporate jet and three Sikorsky S-76B
helicopters.
"As an aircraft owner, President Trump understands the value
of general aviation to the economy and communities," said
AOPA senior vice president of government affairs and advo-
cacy Jim Coon. "We support his calls for increased investment
in airports and infrastructure, and we look forward to working

Piper Aircraft receives
large Aircraft Order
from China
Piper Aircraft has received an Order for 50 PA28
Archers from its Dealer in China, China Air Shut-
tle.
The fleet of aircraft will be manufactured and certified at
Piper Aircraft's factory in Vero Beach and then shipped to
China where they will be reassembled by China Air Shut-
tle's affiliate company in Rizhao, Shandong Province, Chi-
na. The facilities in Rizhao will be developed to a localized
delivery center for prompt service including reassembly,
training, maintenance and product support for Chinese
customers.
As the approved Piper Dealer for Archer airplanes in Chi-
na, China Air Shuttle will then distribute those aircraft to
some of the major flight schools and general aviation com-
panies of the region
Cessna revamping the
Citation Longitude,
Modell 700
Cessna unveiled a new Strategy for attacking the
Super-Midsize Market with a revamped Longitude
When Cessna launched the original $25.9 million, 12-
passenger Citation Model 700 Longitude in 2012, it based
the aircraft’s design on Safran engines that delivered a
4,000-nautical-mile range at Mach 0.82.
However, the company rethought its plans, and late last
year it unveiled a new strategy for attacking the super-
midsize market: a revamped Longitude with shorter legs
(3,500 nautical miles), Honeywell HTF 7000-series en-
gines, and a leaner $23.9 million price tag. Cessna expects
FAA certification this year for the revised Longitude, which
first flew last October.
Moving into the market for larger-cabin aircraft represents a
directional departure fraught with considerable commercial
risk for Cessna. It made its jet bones with popular lines of
light and midsize aircraft, markets where its share has
eroded in recent years in the wake of a challenge from
Embraer and, to a larger extent, the 2008 recession, which
has cut the volume of new business jet deliveries virtually
in half industrywide.
The super-medium space where the Longitude will com-
pete is already crowded with other able long-embedded
offerings from Bombardier, Dassault, and Gulfstream and a
newer heavy-medium from Embraer, the Legacy 500.
Together, these models have accounted for around 1,000
deliveries.

Electrifying Aviation from the Ground
Up,… “From Airport to E-Port
Airports are changing fast. The smart Clean Energy and Green Operations Move-
ment is growing faster than expected.
Electric vehicles and robotic support systems can be found in a growing number of industrial environ-
ments. In civilian and military airports, they are utilized both indoors and outdoors. Together with a
range of ancillary ground support equipment, such electric vehicles are set to play a larger role in
meeting environmental regulations, as well as assisting operators to become much more efficient
and to save costs.
In this day and age, electricity plays an important part in our lives. Everywhere we turn, it’s there.
Ranging from your electric shaver, the air conditioning and TV, to the computer that we spend most
of our day sitting in front of. Though it has taken a bit longer, we are now seeing practical electric
transportation. Our cars, while having contained electronic components for a long time, have been
running on gasoline and diesel. Now, we can own vehicles that are solely powered by electricity.
These advances are not just applicable to cars.
For most people, mention of electrical vehicles brings to mind electric cars of the hybrid or fully elec-
tric kind both types can be seen on roads and are being widely reported about in today's media.
When the Tesla Model S started outselling the Mercedes S-Class, you can bet the alarm bells were
ringing all the way to Stuttgart in Germany. Other premium manufacturers like BMW and Audi, as
well as mainstream manufacturers like GM, are introducing innovations to compete with Tesla. Fea-
tures like instant torque and smooth acceleration are making the top electrical vehicles better cars to
drive than combustion engine alternatives. Other electric vehicles are far less visible to the public but
are found in other transport-related activities, particularly in airport operations. Many of the vehicles
and much of the other equipment used in airport environments are gradually being converted to
electric power.
Some electric vehicles have been used in airports for a long time. Small electric tow tractors are a
familiar sight inside airport terminals where they are used for baggage collection, luggage movement
and towing carts around. The same applies to small-scale people carriers, which ferry people who
have reduced mobility to boarding gates.
Electric service vehicles are also essential in airports for transporting loads to shops, bars or other
services, for moving rows of luggage trolleys and for cleaning floors or collecting refuse.
What's happening outside the Airport Terminal? The operation of electrical vehicles makes
sense, and is required, in enclosed spaces in which there are large numbers of people, as seen in
airport terminals. Emissions from internal combustion engines burning gasoline, diesel, or gas, would
represent health hazards. However, larger electrical vehicles are also increasingly used in airports’
external areas, mainly on the tarmac, for a growing range of tasks.
The move is partly accelerated by national and international initiatives and regulations aimed at
greening airport operations. The scope is wide and includes embracing the use of LEDs for more
energy-efficient ground lighting, providing green energy supply in terminals, adopting geothermal
cooling to heat and cool parked aircraft and pursuing a strategy to phase out diesel and other internal
combustion engines for airport ground support equipment (GSE).
This last measure entails introducing a wide range of electric vehicles and ancillary equipment to
support airport operations. GSE is central to airport operations everywhere. Operations that make life
easier for passengers (allowing them to move from/to terminals and aircraft, to board/disembark and
to load/unload their luggage or cargo) rely increasingly on partially or fully electrically powered equip-
ment. This includes scooters, buggies, carts, bus shuttles, self-propelled stairs, boarding bridges and
belt loaders.
The same trend toward electrification can be found in equipment such as the catering trucks that
supply aircraft with food and drinks and even aircraft lavatory services vehicles. Airports also operate
fleets of cars for a variety of ground operations, such as inspecting runways for debris that may be
dangerous for aircraft or for moving personnel around. Many airports adopt electrical vehicles for
these tasks.
One of the most desirable qualities of electric powered
vehicles is the lack of direct pollution. There is no internal
combustion and no burning of fuel of any kind to generate
energy. They got the term zero-emission for a reason.
Batteries are charged from the power grid, which means
that those vehicles are as clean as the grid. The energy
from the grid is generated from a wide variety of sources
including hydro, solar, wind, nuclear or clean CHP
(combined heat & power) utilizing natural gas or biogas.
The cleaner we can create electricity, and as greener the
grid becomes in the future, the cleaner and more environ-
mentally friendly these electrical vehicles will be.
The ultimate target is to reduce emissions and noise, im-
proving both the environmental footprint and working condi-
tions on the airport tarmac. We can pretend the glaciers
aren’t melting, but is more difficult to explain breathing
problems in children and other catastrophic effects of over-
whelming greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change is
probably the biggest challenge the human race faces in the
coming century.
California has been one of the worst offenders in emissions
since cars were invented, but now the Golden State is
setting an example for the world to follow. Aggressive emis-
sions reductions mandates and alternative fuel vehicle
programs in the state have forced major automakers to get
greener or risk their business in America’s huge auto mar-
ket. In China and other countries, mounting health prob-
lems have been the motivator. In any event, the situation is
critical. Electrical vehicles can help make emissions reduc-
tions a reality.
Moving & Towing Aircraft
Arriving aircraft taxi to their allocated gates using their own
turbine engine power. However, when the time comes to
depart the gate and taxi for takeoff, aircraft have to be
pushed back from their gates. This work is done by low-
profile tractors, which typically use towbars to move the
aircraft into a position from which they can taxi under their
own power.
Until now, pushback tractors have been powered predomi-
nantly by internal combustion engines. However, a new
generation of tractors uses hybrid or electric propulsion
making this a growing trend in the GSE market.
Aircraft also need to be moved and re-positioned at general
aviation terminals, maintenance facilities, parking areas,
and hangars. Electrical towbarless tug vehicles are already
available since quite some time. Older technologies are
now replaced with highly advanced and new innovative tug
systems like semi-autonomous robotic aircraft tug vehicles,
so-called ROTV’s (Remote Operated Tug Vehicles), as well
as modern towbarless cabin tugs that can handle aircraft up
to 220,000 lbs. (100 tons) of MTOW (Maximum Takeoff
Weight).

the Center Focus at the NBAA-BACE Trade Show
TNAs ROTVs (Remote Operated Tug Vehicles) attracted Buyers from all over North & South America.
The Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Orlando, FL was a resounding success. The activity level was high, and the enthusiasm was strong.
Equally important, the show provided a reminder of the industry’s size and significance in the U.S., and around the world. The convention was well-attended, the static
display featured 114 aircraft at Orlando Executive Airport (ORL), and inside the convention center TNA Aviation Technologies showcased their ROTV’s (Remote Operated
Tug Vehicle’s) to a wide variety of existing and potential customers throughout the industry.
The convention featured the latest aviation products and services with plenty of high-tech products. Top-level government policymakers, led by FAA Associate Administra-
tor for Aviation Safety Peggy Gilligan, participated in a Meet the Regulators session to discuss policy issues affecting business aviation, such as the agency’s new compli-
ance philosophy. All three days were packed with well-attended education ses-
sions, including several held at NBAA’s Innovation Zone, in which experts dis-
cussed new technologies, considerations related to the emergence of drones,
and other timely topics.
“The Show’s overriding mission is to bring our entire general aviation industry
together under one roof to network, write orders, talk about the market, strength-
en friendships and build new relationships,” said Michael Turwitt, Managing

behavior: 44% of visitors were final decision makers and 81% of attendees were involved in the decision-making process, highlighting that NBAA-BACE is a strong
“buying” show where decision makers go.

Sets Speed Record
The G280 has set nearly five Dozen
World Speed Records in recent Years.
Gulfstream Aerospace and the Swiss
Fédération Aéronautique Internationale
confirmed last week the Savannah, Geor-
gia, aircraft builder’s G280 super-midsize
business jet set another FAI-sanctioned
world speed record, this one between
McClellan-Palomar Airport (CRQ) in
Carlsbad, California, and Kona Interna-
tional Airport (HKO) in Kalaoa on the far
west edge of the big island of Hawaii.
The G280 completed the 2,257-nautical-
mile overwater flight at its high-speed
cruise of Mach 0.84 despite departing
from CRQ’s 4,897-foot runway. The air-
craft carried three people and touched
down four hours and 47 minutes after
takeoff, with fuel in excess of NBAA IFR
reserves remaining.
The G280, capable of a top speed of
Mach 0.85, has earned 57 speed records
since its November 2012 entry into ser-
vice.
In more traditional operations, the G280
will fly eight passengers a distance of
3,600 nm at Mach 0.80, a trip that means
even against a winter wind, the aircraft
can reach New York nonstop from Lon-
don. This Gulfstream is also certified for
the steep 5.5-degree approach into air-
ports like London City, where the availa-
ble landing distance is 4,327 feet for
landing and just 3,937 feet for takeoff.

Goodbye Aviation Hero
Bob Hoover, the last of a
Daredevil Era that helped
launch the Jet Age
The legendary flier who fought in World War II,
helped launch the jet age as a military test pilot
and later became a top air racer was consid-
ered one of the best “stick and rudder” men in
the world. According to those who knew and flew
with him, Hoover possessed a combination of
technical knowledge and athletic instincts that
allowed him to perform when others could not.
The Palos Verdes Estates resident, considered the last of
an era of aerial daredevils, died at the age of 94. Achieve-
ments that would have been the crown jewels atop any
other airman’s resume seemed to come regularly to him:
For instance, Hoover escaped from a Nazi prison camp,
fleeing the country in a stolen German plane.
And while his career was marked by accomplishments, the
veteran pilot also survived five separate crashes, giving him
a unique perspective on his craft. “I have been broken up
from head to toe,” Hoover said in a 2014 interview.
He ejected out of one of the first combat jets, the Republic
F-84, in 1947 and hit the tail at 500 mph breaking both
legs and injuring his face. Several years later, he was
trapped in a disabled F-100 Super Sabre that slammed into
the desert, bounced 200 feet back into the air and then
slammed down again. That accident broke his back, and
rescue crews had to cut Hoover free from the wreckage.
He flew nearly 300 types of aircraft during a career as one
of the country’s premier test pilots, rocketing across the
Mojave Desert at a time when Southern California was the
epicenter of aviation advancement.
Hoover brushed elbows with the likes of Charles Lindbergh,
Jimmy Doolittle and Paul Tibbets Jr., pilot of the Enola Gay
bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb. His own name
was etched alongside those legends early in his career,
when he served as the backup pilot in the Bell X-1 program,
flying the chase plane when Chuck Yeager first broke the
sound barrier in 1947. We will not forget you, R.I.P.

SJ30i for Maiden

SyberJet Aircraft says engineering
work on the new cockpit of its
SJ30i business jet is “95% com-
plete” and the revamped light twin
should make its maiden sortie in
the third quarter 2017.
The main feature of the redesigned cock-
pit is the airframer’s bespoke SyberVision
flightdeck. Based on Honeywell’s Primus
Epic 2.0 system, it comprises four 30.5cm
(12in) displays and a host of features
including SmartView synthetic vision, a
moving map display system, electronic
charts, TCAS II, dual flight management
systems, graphical flight planning and
onboard weather radar.
SyberJet, headquartered in Cedar City,
Utah, has also upgraded the layout of the
cockpit to boost its functionality and ergo-
nomics. The sidewalls and ledges have
been redesigned to provide maximum
room for the flight crew, while the engine
control panel has been repositioned to
the overhead panel to maximize visibility.
The SJ30 program was acquired in 2011
by SyberJet’s parent company MTI,
whose subsidiary Metalcraft Technologies
was the aft fuselage supplier for the pro-
gram. Four SJ30-2s are in service today
including an example serial number
010 owned by US actor and SJ30 brand
ambassador Morgan Freeman. The $8.8
million SJ30x is scheduled to enter ser-
vice in 2019, featuring remodeled seating
and more fuel-efficient, higher-thrust FJ44
-3AP-25 turbofans.

Embraer Delivers First U.S. Legacy 450
Business Jet Made in Melbourne Florida
Embraer Jet’s are now assembled in the USA
Embraer recently delivered the first Legacy 450 mid-light business jet assembled at its Melbourne Florida plant.
The aircraft was delivered to an undisclosed U.S. customer, who currently owns a Phenom 300 light jet. “We
are pleased to meet customers’ changing needs throughout their journey with a broad product portfolio. The
choice of the Legacy 450 by a Phenom 300 customer testifies to the best-in-class design of each of our air-
craft,” said Marco Tulio Pellegrini, President & CEO, Embraer Executive Jets. “In its category, the Legacy 450
delivers a superior customer experience with unparalleled comfort and performance as well as the most favora-
ble economics.” The assembly of this aircraft
began with the inauguration of the Melbourne
assembly plant expansion, in June 2016. The
second Legacy 450 is already on the assembly
line, and its delivery is scheduled for the first
quarter of 2017.
The larger Legacy 500 midsize jet will begin to
be assembled in Melbourne, early in 2017,
soon after the arrival of its fuselage from Em-
braer’s plant, in Botucatu, Brazil, and its wings
from Évora, Portugal, home to Embraer’s mate-
rials excellence center.
The Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 are also pro-
duced in Brazil, at Embraer’s plant in São José
dos Campos.

Greek operator Amjet Executive becomes first Customer of French Plane Maker’s Flagship.
French business jet maker Dassault has delivered the first Falcon 8X, the company’s latest ultra-long-range
flagship. The trijet was delivered to Amjet Executive, an operator based in Athens, Greece, which offers fleet
management, charter, sales, maintenance and repair services. In addition to its new 8X, Amjet’s fleet includes
Falcon 50, 900EX EASy and 7X bizjets.
The delivery came two years after Dassault introduced the 8X.
Although the 8X has been certified both by EASA and the
FAA since June 2016, Dassault wanted to take the airplane
through some additional long-range testing prior to making the
first delivery. A monthlong round-the-world trip was completed
to “ensure aircraft systems would be fully mature and opera-
tional from day one,” the company said.
Dassault has 11 8Xs in final assembly at its factory in Mer-
ignac, and another 16 are getting ready for customers at the
completion center in Little Rock, Arkansas, which was recently
expanded to accommodate the newly certified trijet. About a
dozen deliveries are expected in the coming weeks to coun-
tries such as UAE, India, Brazil, the U.S. and other European
countries.
