The Day The Towers Fell

The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group Al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

Summery

Do you know what happens when mean people get on a plane? They crash that plane purposely into land marks such as the World Trade Center (WTC), The pentagon, and one into a field in Pennsylvania. People's family members were killed but our homeland security got better not only in airports but in the whole country.

                          Introduction

The World Trade Center

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. The person who put them up to this was Osama Bin Laden.  These men would have gotten in a ton of trouble if they were still alive.

Who Did This?

First, the hijackers went and got plane tickets. They went through airport security and had knives. The scanner is supposed to find guns and explosives, not any cutting implements such as knives and anything sharp. The person who let them on the plane "did not realize what he had done until the next day" when he saw it on the news, it "came stamping around him year after year" (quote from NBC News).

Then they found that the security system had some loopholes that the terrorist's found and used that to their advantage to get through with knives.

At The Airports

This was the George W Bush's broadcasting room on the Air Force 1

This day all of the airports in the country were closed after they found out. Canada took in all of our planes and people. People stayed at the airport and slept over. The airport was overflowing with planes parked everywhere even on the runways. The president at this time was George W Bush, He was taken onto his jet (The Air Force 1). He was taken on a top-secret mission, not even his wife knew what was happening. On his plane, they flew him above the Gulf of Mexico so no one could see him. There was a room in the plane that he could do a live broadcast in the air, so he did. He told everyone what was going on. He didn't even know where he was going. He stated that he will figure out who did that and take care of them and that would never happen again.

As I said the planes were everywhere

At the towers, it was a regular Tuesday morning in September. The sun was out and was warm outside. People starting filing into the towers. Some people were there eating breakfast they are called the "early birds".  Aaron Able was looking out the window of his office and saw something that he couldn't make out what it was. He called over his assistant and she could not see either. By this time everyone was in the building and was working and having a normal day. People in the south tower could not see it so they didn't know about it.

Aaron knew something was wrong. The air traffic control tower was getting calls from the people on the plane and they sounded scared. Aaron was worried but he went on to his day, phone call after phone call, paper after paper.

At The Towers

These offices were full of people. Aaron forgot about it and greeted people one by one making sure everything is ok.

Aaron was doing what he does every day and then he heard something. He went back to the window and saw the plane coming towards them. He was a bull at a bullfight. He ran around screaming and yelling. His assistant saw and was like that too. He started telling people and they told him to calm down. When he calmed down he saw it even closer but he didn't bother saying anything. (Which would have been smart to say something considering what happened.)

On the plane, the people did not know what was happening. They saw the hijackers and then they started flying low. People started calling family members because they were so low and they realized that something was wrong. Some people stood up to the hijackers but they were killed. Others tried calling the police but the cops could not do anything because they were in the air (More than 1000 calls to the emergency line). The people were like chickens running around with their heads cut off.

This plane was a Boeing 747 Airbus (as seen in the diagram to the right), it was a big plane. This plane had a fuel tank is an elephant. And that fuel and oxygen would just feed the fire.

On The Plane

This is what the plane looked like in the air.

                                People On The Plane

One person on the plane was Alexa Jones she was very calm and told everyone it was going to be okay. She tried to stay calm but once the hijackers killed one of the attendants she was out of control. She started yelling and then she was killed. Some people did not say a word the rest of the time

This is not the exact plane but this is how many people were on the plane.

At The Pentagon

The Pentagon is the USA Military headquarters. One side got hit when there was a meeting going on. Only about 20 in the building died. there were 64 people on the plane. One side of the building got hit. No One survived on the plane. It hit head first and was going over 400 miles per hour.

Pennsylvania

The plane that crashed into a field in Pennsylvania was a full plane so there were over 100 people on it. This plane was hijacked and then the passengers took it over from the hijackers and some got killed. It went face first and took a "nosedive"

 Facts

-It cost over 100 million dollars to clean up

-It took 10 days to put out the fire

-Only about 10 people on those floors survived

These are the 9/11 attacks and how they happened.
