Texting while driving was estimated to be involved in 200,000+vehicle crashes in 2012, often involving injuries and deaths. That's at minimum 200,000 people at risk of losing their lives over a text message. A text message that can be sent from anywhere at anytime. Let's use common sense and prevent the unecessary risks. Too much is at stake not to.
That's why in 2010 AT&T, a leading mobile carrier, used their mass influence over the airways to start the #ItCanWait campaign to stop texting and driving. This later expanded from awareness to AT&T taking more initiative through other means besides advertisement. The AT&T DriveMode app is an example of such an means. This app silences notifications and auto-replies to texts to let others know you are currently driving.
In addition, the ItCanWait campaign has also received funding from various organizations like the GHSA (Governors Highway Safety Association).
AT&T is also striving to gain further support and search for better ways to promote safety.
