American Red Cross

Clara Barton and her acquaintances began this organization on May 21, 1881 in Washington, D.C. After the American Civil War, she heard of this red cross network when visiting Europe. After she came back to the U.S., she campaigned for an American Red Cross, which the U.S. government ratified in 1882.

History:

Mission Statement and Focus

The mission of the Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, as stated on their website.

As of right now, this is the main priority and focus of this organization. The focus of this group will not change anytime soon. They wish to be wherever their help is needed so they can help people who can not afford to or are unable to have access to life saving blood products.

Even though the Red Cross has a close relationship with the government, they are not a federal agency but instead, are a nonproft, tax-exempt, charitable institution. The Red Cross has the starus of "a federal insturmentality" because of their charter requirements. Therefore, they have to carry out responibilities delegated to them by the government.

Laws and Legislations

The Red Cross is an incredibly important organization because not only do they help thousands of people, but by doing this, they are improving the quality of life for those people. The Red Cross does not care for race or religion, its only interest is to help those in need and the value of that cannot be stressed enough. This humanitarian service's importance cannot be overstated. People should understand how important this service actually is, so they can volunteer and also donate blood and money to the Red Cross. These donations are incredibly significant, and more people should know about that so they can do their best to help out.
