I have watched this animator’s work since I was little, and I watched most of the movies he has made. He is considered the “Walt Disney of Japan”, and I think that's true. The movies he animated have a cute style and interesting story line. Each one has its similarities by having a similar plot and having one of the main or important characters with magic or an unusual past. There also is alway something you wouldn't really expect to happen.

Why I chose this animator?

Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan. He graduauted from Gakushuin Univercity, with a plan to help Japan restablish its economy. However instead going into politics he joined an animation studio, Toei-Cine. He started his career in 1963, and he married Akemi Ota in October 1965 and had two children. The film Nausicaa of The Valley of the Wind, that was originally a manga he created, was released in 1984. It was so successful that it lead to the establishment of the animation studio, Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki has directed, written, and produced many films. In addition he is also a manga artist. He has helped make the movies Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and many others. Presently, he is 75 years old, and a news articles about him say that it is possible the company will break apart because the recent movies they made aren’t doing as well as they did in the past. Miyazaki decided to retire in September 2013 and go back to drawing manga again like he did in the past. Ever since he retired, people have been wondering who will replace him and become the “new Miyazaki”.
