Services We offer several different therapy services Individual sessions group sessions and instructional therapy adapted lessons Individual music therapy offers one on one attention to specific goals identified within the assessment Group music therapy provides a wonderful opportunity to work on goals with up to six peers Instructional therapy allows individuals to work on functional goals while learning an instrument such as piano guitar or singing Therapy is tailored to individual needs based upon intake information an assessment and IEP goals What Is Music Therapy Music is used therapeutically to address physical psychological communicative cognitive behavioral and or social functioning A Board Certified Music Therapist works through music to facilitate functional goals The brain processes music in both hemispheres Therefore music can stimulate cognitive functioning and may remediate speech language skills Music s inherent structure General Goal Examples Increase executive functioning skills Increase social skills Increase communication expressive receptive Increase emotional awareness Reinforce pre academic academic skills Improve motor functioning and skills and sensory input help establish response and role expectations positive interaction and organization Facilitating positive change through Music Basic Interventions Singing Instrumental improvisation Songwriting Lyric discussion analysis Playing instruments Movement to music Music relaxation Melodic Intonation Therapy Anderson Music Therapy Services LLC Noel Anderson MMT MT BC Neurologic Music Therapist 540 384 1677 Noel amusictherapy com

Music Therapy Process 1 Consultation Individuals who have interest in music therapy may set up a free consultation During this consultation you may ask question about music therapy as well as our music therapy services You may also want to introduce your child to the therapist during this visit You can then decide if you wish to move forward in the process 2 Assessments During an assessment we will observe musical as well as non musical behaviors such as affect speech and language motor skills and cognition After an assessment is completed and documented the therapist will share the findings with the parent guardian 3 Treatment Plan The Treatment Plan will reflect findings from the assessment any relevant information from other therapists speech occupation physical etc and input from the parent guardian Specific long term goals will be documented along with short term objectives 4 Music Therapy Sessions Each session will be focused on the goals and objectives outlined in the treatment plan Interventions will be selected depending on the individual s needs age and developmental level 5 Progress Updates Parents guardians will be given informal verbal updates as well as Session Notes Notes will indicate the goals that were addressed during the session the general behavior of the individual and indicate any progress You may choose to receive notes in paper form or online Official documented progress updates will be dispersed three times a year Winter Spring Summer Funding Options Music therapy services can be funded by Private pay Grants Scholarships Insurance case by case As a Related Service IEP Medicare reimburses for MT services under benefits for Partial Hospitalization Programs PHP Core Medicaid does not currently pay for MT services in Virginia
