Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells.  It happens when exposure to the sun damages skin cells, leading to the growth of malignant tumors. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer.

What Is Skin Cancer?

Causes

  • Cumulative sun exposure
  • Severe sunburns
  • Ultraviolet rays from the sun
  • Tanning beds

Symptoms

  • lumps on or under the skin
  • weight loss or gain
  • unusual bleeding
  • unusual moles 

Risk Factors

  • Exposure to the sun
  • The use of tanning beds
  • A lighter natural skin colors
  • A family history of skin cancer

Complications

  • Scarring
  • Pain
  • Lymphedima
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Death
