Imagine yourself walking into the spaceship. As you

 

buckle up you hear 5,4,3,2,1. Then you feel the ground shake. You look out the

 

window and you can see yourself in your head as you break through the

 

earth's atmosphere. You just realize you're going to be the first

 

person to orbit our own planet Earth.

 

 

John Herschel Glenn, Jr, was born on July 18, 1921, in Cambridge Ohio. In 1939 Glenn went to Muskingum College, In 1942 He went out of college to join the U.S Marine Corps Pilot in WW2. In 1962 Glenn got a degree in chemistry. During the korean war (1950-1953) Glenn shot down 3 enemy planes. In just 3 years Glenn had been in 59 Combat missions. Soon after John Glenn began in the U.S Marine Corps he married a girl named Anna Caster, Together they had two children, John David, and Carolyn Ann. Glenn and six other men were chosen out of 110 test volunteers for the Mercury Project. The Mercury Project would send an American man to space in a rocket ship to orbit around earth 3 times. Before he was recruited he made a world record. That record was that he flew from Los Angeles to New York City in 3 hours and 23minuts.
