St John s J our nal Page 4 Sunshine Flowers and Butterflies are taking over the Child Development Center We are so excited for this warm weather which brightens each day The children had a blast dressing up for Dr Seuss Birthday and celebrating St Patrick s Day They have also enjoyed the beautiful weather that we have experienced Mrs Katie s 3K class even made a hexagon on the playground with their bodies Our Afterschool Elementary children are very excited for Spring Break because they are out of school for an entire week this month During this week the children will get to go bowling skating and they are going to go to the Civic Center to play in the park The 3K and 4K are going to experience a new field trip located in Townville SC to visit an Alpaca Farm to learn how alpacas provide wool to make yarn for items such as clothing and blankets All of the children are super excited for the Easter Bunny to arrive at their house on that fabulous Sunday morning that we as Christians get to celebrate The Rising of Jesus Christ Donations are needed for our Afterschool children for Summer Camp such as Age appropriate books magazines toys outside equipment DVD s etc If your child has outgrown some of these items it would be greatly appreciated if you could donate them to the CDC please drop off at the Sheffield Building So I ll cherish the old rugged Cross till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross and exchange it some day for a crown VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Mark the date of June 19 22 Contact Kelly Dunlap 864 934 7389 or ksdunlap84 gmail if you would like to volunteer

Page 6 Foothills Alliance a local nonprofit organization has launched a new program called Strengthening Families During this 14 week program families will be able to learn how to effectively communicate with one another build stronger relationships within the family manage stress better listen more and yell less and prevent problem behaviors The targeted age group is children ages 6 11 Strengthening Families provides FREE transportation to Anderson County residents FREE gas cards for families who drive FREE gift cards to local restaurants and businesses movie passes skating passes door prizes and much more The Strengthening Families will be held every Monday at St John s United Methodist Church in Anderson S C starting on March 13th 2017 from 5 30 p m to 7 30 p m Each family has a curriculum that they will follow each week Families will also partake in a family style dinner as well as participate in family games This awesome program will end on June 26th 2017 The last week there will be a formal graduation where a big raffle prize will be given away games and crafts grilling and a kickball game will take place as well If you are looking to have some fun build a better bond with your family and just to interact with other families in our community consider joining The Strengthening Families today St Jo h n s Journa l The St John s Happy Group will be meeting Tuesday April 11 2017 at 12 00 Noon in the Fellowship Hall We will enjoy a meal of Pork Roast Sweet Corn Fresh Veggies Garden Salad Rolls and Dessert catered by Carolina Catering Our guest speaker this month will be Dr Mark L Hopkins He is the past president of four colleges author of a syndicated newspaper column and other publications He will share with us his Fiction Based on Fact sequel to Journey to Gettysburg which is entitled The Wounds of War Members will be called or emailed for reservations Non members and guests are asked to call President Dick Franklin or Portia Franklin at 864 6429698 Reservations are due by Friday April 7 2017
