Lowell School founded in 1913 – Principal Nick Smith November 2015 Principal’s Den Dear Lowell Community, Happy November! It is hard to believe that we are one fourth of the way through the school year! With parent teacher conferences behind us, I wanted to thank all of our parents, guardians and family members who were able to make it in to meet with their child’s teacher. As you have heard me say before, educating a child is a team effort. Nothing symbolizes that partnership more than parent teacher conferences where you as parents have an opportunity to engage with your child’s teacher and hear about your student’s academic progress and potential challenges. My hope is that you each walked away from your student’s conference with a stronger understanding of where your child is academically and picked up a few ideas on how you can support your child’s education from home. With November upon us and the weather turning colder, I wanted to remind families of our school policy which states, “Shorts may be worn to school during the months of August, September, October, April, May and June.” As a result, students should no longer be wearing shorts to school. Please help your students come to school dressed for the colder weather. As a rule of thumb, students will be outside for recess and before school as long as the temperature is 20 degrees or above with or without a wind chill. Warm coats, hats and gloves are encouraged. In this newsletter you will read about the Boise School District and Lowell Elementary’s new website powered by SharpSchool. We are very excited to launch this new website with the goal of increasing communication with parents and families. One of the best features of the new website is the new Lowell Google Calendar which you can sync with your own Google Calendar or mobile device! Be sure to check out our new website at https://boiselowell.ss8.sharpschool.com/! In closing, thank you all for being a part of our amazing Lowell Community and for your part in making Lowell a special place for our students. Your Principal, Nick Smith

The Boise School District launched a new website on October 28 to strengthen communication to parents, students, staff and patrons. According to Dan Hollar, Public Affairs Administrator, “The District has worked closely with SharpSchool to design a clean, concise and student-focused website. We believe it will do a better job of supporting the culture and brand of Boise Schools, a public school system that is high performing and dedicated to preparing students for success in college, career and citizenship.” The new website design will allow you to find the information you are seeking quickly and easily, including teacher pages, school and classroom calendars, academic resources, menus and transportation routes. In addition, a News & Announcements section will be regularly updated to include important information about your Boise Schools. The District web address will remain the same - www.boiseschools.org and will contain a drop down box with links to each school’s website. A new mobile app will be designed in the near future to help connect parents to the new website anytime and anywhere. We appreciate your understanding, patience and support as we move forward on this important and exciting project.
