By: Jackson Olinger

Cystic Fibrosis was discovered in 1938 by Dr. Dorothy Andersen. She concluded that this new disease mostly affects the lungs and digestive system. She also says it can hurt people that have it by building up mucus in these areas. This mucus is thicker and more sticky than usual. She finally discovered that this disease affected the life expectancy of someone with this disorder all the way to only 37 years old.

Side Effects

Even though Cystic Fibrosis mainly affects the lungs and digestive systems, the side effects affect the liver and kidneys. This causes an incresed difficulty in breathing and sometimes the lung infections are caused by these side effects as well. Some other side effects include sinus infections for a long while and a hugely decreased growth rate.

How it's inherited

Cystic Fibrosis is a ressesive trait. The disorder affects 1 in every 3,000 newborns. It is most common among Northern European babies and is least common anywhere in Africa or Asia. This disorder is located in the 7th human chromosome and is affected by some enviromental factors like stress and inhaled pollutants.
