Our PTA did all the hard work for us, offering a great choice of options within different potential budgets, and she really listened to our interests and what we wanted. She was always thinking ahead and answered our queries immediately, with knowledge and insight. She had unique contacts and links which meant we benefitted from some great deals that would ordinarily be unavailable to us. It was so reassuring to have such an expert taking care of everything and being a step ahead! “ “ It was so reassuring to have such an expert taking care of everything and being a step ahead Every aspect of organising our honeymoon was made easy and straightforward, right from the beginning when we didn’t even know where we wanted to go! She has very personal knowledge of the most gorgeous and luxurious global destinations and her advice was invaluable. As a same sex couple we wanted the honeymoon upgrades just like a heterosexual couple would receive. Our PTA was one step ahead of us and had already checked we would be welcomed and fully entitled to all honeymoon benefits. We felt reassured that everything would be taken care of for us, and it was. We were delighted when she secured us the most wonderful water villa at a superb five star island resort. The customer service was exemplary and we have a lot to thank her for as the honeymoon was out of this world. It was the stuff of dreams, so much so that we cried when we left the island as we did not want to leave! It goes without saying that we always recommend her to our family and friends. Nothing was too much trouble, and we absolutely loved it - especially all the added extras and upgrades! The whole experience was magical. Thank you so much, Em and Sal x 15

Top Tips When in the Seychelles, Island Hop Every island in the Seychelles offers something different and unforgettable. From entirely undeveloped nature sanctuaries to “busy” Mahe with its markets and seafood shacks, from the tiny dots in the ocean with empty beaches to the ultra luxury of private island resorts. If you are going to travel all this way, twin one or two islands together to truly experience the Seychelles. Speed boat transfers between the islands are quick, easy and a stunning spectacle. Be Car-less in San Francisco When it comes to a USA fly drive, San Francisco is a must do stop over, either at the start or at the end of your stay, before you catch a connecting flight to a beach resort. That bridge, the scenic Bay, those cable cars… San Francisco has a cosmopolitan vibe and is easily navigated without a car. There are central city and airport drop off points for your hire car. Once on foot, you can make a beeline for the trams and ferries, saving a fortune on parking fees. When in Sri Lanka, Create your Own Tour The true style and substance of Sri Lanka is not in one place, hence why touring is popular, but sharing your honeymoon with other travellers could be a real mood killer. The alternative option is to hire your own car with your own driver. Your driver is at your disposal every day to take you to your chosen destination, when you want, stopping en route at places of interest. You can be organised and plan your journey before you arrive or you can plan as you go taking advice from your driver. 18

When in Mauritius, Go West The west coast of the island is always a couple of degrees warmer than the east. It is sheltered from the ocean breeze with calmer waters, making the coral reefs more accessible and the beaches slightly sandier. When in the Maldives, Face West Request that your beach bungalow or water villa is facing west. This will ensure you can view, in privacy, the most spectacular sunsets over the Indian Ocean every evening. Whether you gaze over a glass of champagne with your arms tight around your loved one or get snap happy with your camera, you will never get enough of this daily occurrence. Think About What is Really Important to You All inclusive is a popular choice and good value for money. If you are not the type to take advantage of the free-flowing cocktails it may be worth looking at a more luxurious resort based on full board. Do you like to get dressed up and make an entrance for dinner or are you more of a bare foot and kaftan type of diner? This information, albeit very small, plays a big part in finding the perfect resort for you. The same can be said for beach babes or pool people, sports enthusiasts or spa lovers, disco divas or romantic sunset watchers? Be sure to let your PTA know what type of newly weds you are. Leave a Gap Between your Wedding and Honeymoon Many couples feel pressured to jet off immediately after their big day. There are several reasons why you would benefit from waiting a few days, a week or even a month. Your wedding day is exhausting - allow a day or two at least to recuperate, absorb the emotions of tying-the-knot and shift the possible hangover! Weather is another factor. The forecast here in the UK can be very different to your chosen destination and it sometimes pays to wait a couple of weeks for better weather overseas. The same can be said about price - flights and peak seasons vary greatly, a few days could make a big difference to your final cost. 19

It is the realisation of his vision to create a pioneering, sustainable, all-inclusive luxury resort. • The 44-acre The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort is an exclusive island retreat offering legendary St. Regis butler service, a 13,000 square foot CLARINS spa and superlative overwater accommodation. Essential details • Although considered a year-round destination, the summer months in the region (November to April) are the hottest, humid and wettest time to visit. The winter (May to October) is the peak time for visitors. Shoulder season (September to November and April to June) offer lower prices but still good weather. • French Polynesia falls into GMT +12 hours with flights taking around 24 hours from the UK with stopovers. • Most flights from the UK go via LA, (perfect for a stopover) then on to Papeete in Tahiti, followed by a further flight to Bora Bora. Cruising French Polynesia with Paul Gauguin Cruises is a great way to explore all of the islands. 21

DO DOUBL UBL EE the Fun, the Experience, the Honeymoon! Twin centres are the perfect way to make you feel like you have had two honeymoons. Choose a more active first centre and then spend your 2nd week relaxing on white sandy beaches soaking up the sun. Or why not try a spot of touring and discover as much as you can before you move on to your second centre? Whatever you decide we are sure there’s a perfect twin centre combination out there for you. Self Drive Tour West Coast USA The West Coast of the USA is not all Hollywood and skyscrapers. Your self-drive tour can be as small and quaint or as big and brash as you want to make it. The main attractions are Los Angeles for Hollywood glitz, theme parks and luxury shopping; San Francisco for the history, beaches, bars and seafood; Napa Valley for the wine lovers; Yosemite for those who love nature, wild life and dramatic scenery and of course Las Vegas for the casinos, bright lights and endless nights. The drive between LA and San Francisco is a great way to start your honeymoon. It’s straight up the ‘Big Sur’, a rugged stretch of coastline bordered on the east by the Santa Lucia Mountains and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. The views are stunning - there are no traffic lights, no high-rise hotels, no shopping malls and when the sun goes down the moon and stars are the only streetlights. There are a few small towns scattered along the route to break your journey. Pismo is a delightful seaside town and Carmel is famous for being the town where Clint Eastwood was Mayor. Cherry-pick where you visit and in what order, or see it all. Either way, your PTA can help to tailor-make your very own tour of the West Coast even down to the type of vehicle you hire. And it doesn’t have to end there! Why not swap the diversity of the West Coast for wave riding in Hawaii? Have a break from the touring and spend a few days relaxing on one of the islands before you continue on your way or end your honeymoon here. 22 Here are a few suggestions of itineraries: • 3 nights LA, 5 nights Hawaii, 3 nights San Francisco • 3 nights San Francisco, 5 nights Hawaii, 3 nights LA, 3 nights Las Vegas • 3 nights LA, 3 nights San Francisco, 5 nights Hawaii

Highly Recommended Tanzania & Zanzibar A safari and beach combination is an excellent choice for a honeymoon. With a genuine mix of adventure and relaxation, few destinations can offer more than Tanzania combined with Zanzibar. The Serengeti is indisputably Tanzania’s most famous National Park; the large populations of lions, cheetahs and leopards are permanent residents. What better way to view these magnificent creatures than an early morning balloon safari over the plains before breakfast accompanied by sparkling wine. The wild parks of Southern Tanzania are not as well-known. You can expect to stay in exclusive and small lodges away from the crowds. Animals are truly wild, allowing you to observe them in their natural habitat. The Selous Game Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the largest natural wilderness areas in Africa. Ruaha National Park has even fewer lodges and is a little more off the beaten-track. Zanzibar beaches are some of the finest in the world. Coconut palms and powder soft sands are lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. With more than 25 fantastic beaches, some so peaceful and remote that the only sound that can be heard is the ocean, it is simply paradise. A few kilometres from the capital Stone Town are several smaller islands, perfect for day trips and snorkelling excursions, as well as romantic sunset dhow cruises. Easily accessible by small aircraft or by boat, these secluded islands offer a perfect haven for honeymooners. The Original Sri Lanka & The Maldives So different yet perfect, and probably one of the most popular pairings for a twin centre holiday. An exotic paradise with an abundance of things to see and do, Sri Lanka has impeccable beaches, lush mountain terrain and magnificent wildlife. It is also home to no less than eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. Explore the bustling markets of Colombo, the beautiful pristine beaches of Negombo and Waikkal and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy. No trip would be complete without a visit to one of the plantation estates where you can learn more about the country’s most famous export, tea. After a busy few days’ touring it’s time to relax and luxuriate on one of the many Maldivian white sandy beaches with a cocktail in hand. Transfer by water-taxi or seaplane to one of the 2000 islands which are a honeymooners’ paradise. Boasting luxury resorts, many of which are on their own island, outstanding hospitality and mouth-watering food you will want for nothing. For those looking for some action, discover the amazing marine life with a spot of snorkelling or diving; or up the tempo and try windsurfing, wake boarding or paragliding. 23

How to honeymoon in the Caribbean When it comes to honeymoons, Kuoni is the go-to expert – speak to your Co-operative Personal Travel Advisor to plan your perfect Kuoni honeymoon. Best time to go: December – April Warm and sunny for most of the year, expect more tropical showers between June and November; and the occasional chance of hurricanes during these months. The boutique honeymoon * Keyonna Beach | Antigua Antigua is one of the easiest islands in the Caribbean to get to and Kuoni has found a little slice of paradise in the boutique Keyonna Beach. With only seven rooms and 17 cottages, you’ll find a laid-back and personal stay at this couples-only retreat. The half-mile long beach dazzles and is dotted with day beds draped in white muslin and our room choice would be a Beachfront Pool Cottage right on the sand, with its own private pool. There’s a reputation for fantastic cuisine here, using locally-sourced ingredients all made fresh to order. We also recommend tearing yourself away from the ocean view to enjoy a rainforest canopy tour or explore the nearby capital of St John’s. The Kuoni touch: Kuoni will have a complimentary bottle of Champagne waiting for you in your room and will treat you both to a 30-minute massage at the outdoor spa. UK to Antigua 8½ hours | GMT -4 24

The castaway honeymoon .* Palm Island Resort | The Grenadines This tiny speck of an island (which you can reach via Saint Lucia) is barefoot luxury at its best. No TVs or phones in the rooms mean you can step back in time where technology is concerned and simply embrace island living. Spend days exploring the island on the cycle track and nature trails; nab a hammock on one of the secluded beaches under the coconut palms; and take to the water in a kayak to see the island from a different perspective. The staff are the real highlight here, so expect to make some new friends during your castaway honeymoon. The Kuoni touch: Take your wedding certificate with you and Kuoni will arrange a complimentary romantic dinner for you both on the beach. UK to the Grenadines 10½ hours | GMT -4 The ‘A-list’ honeymoon * Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort Saint Lucia With fans like Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow, we’re surprised you don’t have to sign a non-disclosure agreement the moment you set foot in this lush Caribbean hideaway. It’s private villas are tucked among the rainforest between Saint Lucia’s iconic Pitons, making it a hot address on the island. Most of the rooms and villas have their own private plunge pool and butler service; and we love the rainforest spa, with winding wooden walkways leading to the treehouse treatment cabanas. Pure indulgent bliss! The Kuoni touch: There are room upgrades, bonus nights and meal upgrade offers available here with Kuoni, so ask your PTA for details. Kuoni will also make sure a complimentary bottle of Champagne is waiting for you in your room. UK to Saint Lucia 9 hours | GMT -4 These Kuoni added extras are subject to change, cancellation and restriction dates. Special discounts may replace these Kuoni Plus offers. For confirmation that these offers are valid for your honeymoon, talk to your Personal Travel Advisor. 25

OUR EXPERIENCE Thailand FACTS AMY & AARON- NOVEMBER 2015 Flight time: Approx. 12 hours Time Difference: GMT +7 hours Currency: The Baht Language: Thai The Shore Katathani & The Sarojin From start to finish we were so impressed with the efficiency of our Personal Travel Advisor. We told her that we wanted to visit Thailand for our honeymoon and would like to see various places on our trip. She quickly responded with so many different options of things to do and see. Together we decided on locations and then she came up with some of the most luxurious hotels we had ever seen! We whittled our options down and selected 3 of the hotels, all of which were in great locations. Our Personal Travel Advisor arranged private transfers between each destination, internal, outbound and returning flights. She also contacted each of the hotels prior to our stay to tell them we were there to celebrate our honeymoon to which we enjoyed both complimentary upgrades and champagne. We couldn’t recommend or praise our Personal Travel Advisor any more. She really did help us plan and enjoy the most ‘Perfect Moon’ ever. We couldn’t have wished for better! Thanks, Amy Desmond 27

Where when TO GO We hope you’ve enjoyed reading our magazine and it has helped you to focus on what you want from your honeymoon. We have made a few suggestions of when it might be best to go to different destinations but it is by no means a definitive guide. When organising your honeymoon, you need to take into account the season and what you prefer, what you plan to do and of course your budget – it may be more cost effective to go out of season.
