Notes on Carrie s Biography After my father died I took over the family history and memorabilia that he had collected from his parents and family Among those files was this unpublished biography scrapbook with handwritten notes from Carrie May Shaffer Tomer his mother His notes indicated that the book was in an advanced state of deterioration and to save the photographs he had to disassemble it Before he did so he copied the pages as they were I have attempted to reproduce what Grandmother Carrie Gaga would have wished and have added copies of the actual photos that she used My sincerest thanks to all the family members who cheerfully answered questions or provided photographs and to my husband Jeff Booth who read out the notes I have tried to transcribe her notes as best I could any errors are purely mine This biography not only covers Carrie s life but also gives a brief history of the entire Elias Wilbert Shaffer family as Carrie was their eldest child I offer this book to her descendants with respect for our grandparents and aunts and uncles Janice Lee Tomer daughter of John Shaffer Tomer December 2010 66
