Cupcake Wars is both a fun and exciting way for students to work in groups of three to four to create a new cupcake Throughout this lesson students will learn to follow a recipe team work create a new venue and learn time management skills National FACS Standards Food Production 8 4 Demonstrate menu planning principles and techniques based on standardized recipes to meet customer needs 8 4 2 Apply menu planning principles to develop and modify menus 8 4 3 Analyze food equipment and supplies needed for menus 8 4 4 Develop a variety of menu layouts themes and design styles This lesson will let students work in groups of three to four to create and design a cupcake They will find a recipe for both the frosting and cupcake for the competition I have included all of the directions as well as a basic frosting recipe in this lesson Students will also come up with a way to display their cupcake Such as a nice table cloth to compliment their cupcake as well as the recipe with ingredients and directions they used to make their cupcake At the end of their prep work students will be judged on their completed cupcake Students will be judged based on the taste and creativity of their cupcake Ask for volunteers such as teachers or staff members to judge the Cupcake War I have included a Official Cupcake War Judging Score Card for the judges to use Teachers will use the score card for their students final grade which is included in the packet Prizes for the winning cupcake could be something like extra credit I would recommend putting a CUPCAKE WAR poster in the classroom with the winner of the cupcakes on a bulletin board in the classroom and out in the hall Another idea is to submit pictures and a brief story of the classroom Cupcake Wars to the local newspaper This is a great way to promote your classroom to parents and community members will get an understand what students are doing in your classroom This product is a PDF file with 6 printable pages Terms of Use All content in this product is the copyrighted property of Lori Arnold You are granted permission to use this product for your personal and non commercial use You may not sell trade share or redistribute this product in any form You may not create a derivative work and claim it as your own If you have any questions regarding terms of use please contact Lori at lla4230 aol com Graphics by scrappindoodles com Thank you for purchasing Cupcake Wars and have fun

Brain Storm what you want your cupcake to look like Use your imagination Give as much detail as possible and provide a sketch of your cupcake Include color of frosting and other decorations you may want to include on your cupcake Remember keep your cupcake idea a secret you want to win the cupcake competition Choose a cupcake recipe This can be made from a box or scratch Please circle the recipe you choose to do Box Mix Chocolate Cake Box Mix Vanilla Box Mix Red Velvet Box Mix Other___________________ Made from scratch_________________ Basic Frosting Recipe I have included the basic icing recipe You may add flavors colors or pick another recipe Make sure you list what ingredients your group needs Basic Frosting Recipe 1 c shortening 4 c powdered sugar 1 tsp vanilla 3 4 T water In a large mixing bowl and add shortening vanilla and water Mix well while slowly adding sugar Mix continuously until there are no lumps and the icing has reached a smooth consistency Place icing in air tight container label container with name and period number Decorations Please list any decorations you will need for your cupcake competition This would include cake decorating tools and accessories Presentation of the Cupcake Students will need to provide judges a sample of their cupcake The must have a label that would include the name of their cupcake and identification number No names of students are to be on the label Each group will receive an identification number by the teacher Teachers can choose any number to give to groups Judging Students will be judged based on the Score Card provided Overall Grade Your teacher will complete a score card as part of your final grade She he will also evaluate you based on using time wisely in class and cooperation
