City in the sky I choose it because it shows my position in architecture, a practical way in which the architect must test materials and research other disciplines to understand the behaviour of what he’s designing and then he will be able to design in an optimal way. On the other hand, I’m interested in energy use and the status of the built heritage of our cities, probably influenced by the culture of western europe, which is mostly built right now and what exists is an important concern. In that sence some of my works have faced the Rehabilitation or Recover issue and I’m currently coursing my internship on a Rehabilitation studio. 2 Pag. a//A r c h i t e c t u r e SOLAR THERMAL HOUSING .DESCRIPTION A project placed in Sant Vicent del Raspeig near Alicante for the competition “Powering Transformations”. The idea was to research on the synergy between different passive systems of climate design and integrate them together in a common block typology that we designed according to the density and conditions of the city. The weather in Alicante is hot at summer (very often over 30º) and cold enough to need a good insulation in winter (around 10º average). It hardly ever rains in the area and we found that the sun is a constant powerful source of energy and the passive systems we used are based on it. We used a Canadian well to and pre-heat/pre-cool the incoming air and a solar chimney as a natural way of extracting the air from it to eliminate the energy loss for direct ventilation. Also, the chimney works in winter as a solar gallery which heats the flats during the night, and it’s also possible to use cross ventilation to make use of the “free cooling” Image: Project for the competition Powering Transformations 4 Pag. a//A r c h i t e c t u r e Interpretation MUSEUM CENTER .DESCRIPTION The project takes place in a protected natural environment in Guardamar del Segura, characterized by large sand dunes with some pine tree areas inside of it. The aim was to build in there an interpretation museum for the ruins of a 10th century muslim settlement (Rábita) and a 7th century b.C. phoenician ruin next to it (Fonteta). We decided to build the Center directly over a part of the ruins, which is deeply undertaken, so we used a very lightweight and ephimer construction system formed by prefabricated steel modules over a foundation designed with recicled tyres which makes the building float over the sand and causes very little impact. The project included 1:5 details of every single element and a written memory with the specifications of all of them to be capable of building it at any workshop. 8 Pag. ALICANTE Pag. 9

a//A r c h i t e c t u r e ART CITY Competition Design Image: 3rd price of the “Concurso Ibérico Pladur 2014”, university level .DESCRIPTION The project aim was to rehabilitate for a new use the old plant nº8 in the cultural complex of Matadero in Madrid The use was set to artists temporary residence and creative work places. The number of artists and the surface was specified and the sponsor of the competition was a big plasterboard enterprise. Our decision was to build small living units with plasterboard panels, so we could control the amount of square meters spent and also place them in a more free way, creating a more attractive space which included a central lake for distribution and vegetation in the iluminated areas of the ground floor. Therefore the resulting space is clear and stimulating for creative jobs. There was also an track for visitors, with restaurants at the basement and a museum-like track around the lake to exhibit the works produced in it. 20 Pag. MADRID Pag. 21

a//A r c h i t e c t u r e PLAZA TABACALERA .DESCRIPTION Tabacalera is right now the greatest built heritage in the city of Alicante although it’s abandoned. it was historically a tobacco factory which empowered the city’s growth during the XVIIIth and XIXth century where 5.000 women got to work at it’s highest point. Right now the building is a massive abandoned piece in the middle of the city, so our project was to recover that space and give it back to the city, by creating new entrances and pedestrian streets inside the old ruin. These routes are materializes with bridges, as topography in the area is very rugged. The sections in which we worked on show the inner streets that cross the building in the 2 directions, the new vertical connections and the actuations to transform the laberynthic space we have now into clear volumes and open spaces. 24 Pag. The aim was set to design a future way of living in the context of Rotterdam; a vertical, dense city where space must be used efficiently. The studio’s point of view was to work in the interior of the misused office buildings in the city and turn them into appratments, with a 1:1 built model. JVB portfolio c// Concept Design Cloud life - Mcs 2 Hyperbody - 2013 .Design The prototype defines a space where the furniture forms the walls according to the client specifications and the furniture only appears when requested. Everything in here is moving and there is the possibility to both create small sleeping units or large clear areas for celebrations. .Prototiping scale 1:1 The prototipe measures 3x3x3 m and it was built with sponsored materials at 90%, costing around 1800€. The material used is a fiber board made with agriculture waste (ECOboard) cutted using a CNC milling machine. We also used a lasercutter for small models and material testing and the tools were lent by the Science Center which belongs tu the university. 34 Pag. Pag. 35

c//C o n c e p t d e s i g n BLAST .DESCRIPTION Eau IS Blast Eau Is was a concept project which imagined how it would be if the construction over the seas that we see in the area of the Netherlands got to a radical point and people began to live directly over floating structures over the sea. Preassure and oxigen are the biggest threads when living under water, so our design was based on tubular and spherical shapes, which are the strongest for this purpose, and the oxigen and natural light were brought to the inside through vertical “Caleidoscopes”. The air contained at the capsules would make the complex float. This project also involved to design a way of living; to make it sustainable we needed to extract a production from the sea resources, so every living capsules, which could host a couple of persons, would have its own marine courtyard and the lower part of it would be an inmersion chamber. The products obtained from the sea could directly be brought to the surface through floating baptispheres. 38 Pag. ALICANTE Pag. 39
