Whitney Robertson, from Garland,
Texas, has been dancing since
age 6. She grew up dancing in
the studio where she trained in
multiple styles of dance, including
jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop.
She started her drill team career in
high school where she was captain
of the Sterling Stars in Naaman
Forest High School. She then went
on to become a “World Famous
Kilgore College Rangerette” for
two years at Kilgore College. As
a Rangerette, she performed at
many venues, such as the Dallas
Cowboys football games, the 70th
Commemoration of the Attack
on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, and
the Texas State Society Ball in
Washington D.C., to name a few.
She now attends the University of
North Texas, where she will major
in Public Relations and minor in
Lexi Johnston, from Kilgore, Texas, began
dancing with Longview Ballet Theatre at
age 6 under the direction of Pat George
Mitchell. Since age 9, she has studied at
summer intensives, such as Hubbard Street
Dance Chicago, Miami City Ballet, San
Francisco Ballet, School of American Ballet
and American Ballet Theatre in New York
City, and Boston Ballet. At age 14, she began
training with Tempe Kirby in jazz technique.
Johnston served as captain of the Kilgore High
School Hi-Steppers her junior and senior
years under the direction of Coleen Clower.
In 2010, she was chosen as the “Cover Girl” for
American Dance/Drill Team Company. After
graduating from high school in 2011, Johnston
continued her studies in classical ballet and
contemporary dance at the University of
North Carolina School of the Arts, under the
direction of Susan Jaffe. She will be a junior
there this fall, working toward her degree in
classical ballet. UNCSA has provided her
with many performance opportunities, the
most recent performing the lead in Susan
Jaffe’s world premiere of “Polovtsian Dances.”
She has also performed several roles in Ethan
Stiefiel’s “Nutcracker,” as well as pieces by
Twyla Tharp, William Forsythe, George
Balanchine, and Emery Lecrone. In the future,
she hopes to dance with a contemporary ballet
company and then open her own dance studio
with her sister, Colby.
Colby Johnston grew up in Kilgore,
Texas, and at age 7 began studying
classical ballet at Pat George Mitchell’s
Studio of Creative Arts in Longview.
She ultimately became a principal
dancer with Mitchell’s Longview Ballet
Theatre, where she partnered with
and danced opposite from world-class
professional dancers. During this
time, she also attended Miami City
Ballet’s summer intensives. She began
her jazz training with Tempe Kirby
at age 12. Colby served as Captain of
the Kilgore High School Hi-Steppers
her junior and senior years under the
direction of Coleen Clower. She
will pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts
Degree in Contemporary Dance from
The University of North Carolina
School of the Arts. She hopes to
dance professionally in a contemporary
company and eventually open a dance
studio with her sister, Lexi.
