E-Mount Lag Installation Instructions Installation Tools Required: tape measure, roofing bar, chalk line, stud finder, caulking gun, sealant compatible with roofing materials, drill with 7/32" long-style bit, drill or impact gun with 1/2" socket. WARNING: Quick Mount PV products are NOT designed for and should NOT be used to anchor fall protection equipment. 1 2 3rd course 2nd course 3 1st course Locate, choose, and mark centers of rafters to be mounted. Select the courses of shingles where mounts will be placed. 4 Using drill with 7/32" bit, drill pilot hole into roof and rafter, taking care to drill square to the roof. Do not use mount as a drill guide. Drill should be ‘long style bit’, aka ‘aircraft extension bit’ to drill a 1¾" deep hole into rafter. 7 Carefully lift composition roof shingle with roofing bar, just above placement of mount. Remove nails as required. See "Proper Flashing Placement" on next page. 5 Clean off any sawdust, and fill hole with sealant compatible with roofing materials. 8 Insert flashing between 1st and 2nd course. Slide up so top edge of flashing is at least 3/4" higher than the drip edge of the 3rd course and lower flashing edge is above the drip edge of 1st course. Mark center for drilling. 6 Slide the flashing into position. Insert the rubber plug into the QBlock cavity. You are now ready for the rack of your choice. Follow all the directions of the rack manufacturer as well as the module manufacturer. All roofing manufacturers’ written instructions must also be followed by anyone modifying a roof system. Consult the roof manufacturer's specs and instructions prior to touching the roof. Slide the washer and the L-foot (not included) onto the lag screw. If the exposed surface of the course exceeds this measurement you may need to use our Classic Shake Mount instead. nn Depending on the season and climate, size and location of seal tabs, and quality of the shingles, the seal tabs that adhere the shingle courses together may not effectively seal the shingles to the flashings. If this is the case, simply add several quarter-sized dabs of manufacturer accepted sealant or asphalt roofing cement, meeting ASTM D 4586 Type II, between the flashing and the shingle above. nn Mounts should not be installed in areas of the roof susceptible to ice damming. Water ponding under the shingles can reach the bolt penetration. nn Take care not to damage the roofing material while working on the roof. Removing stone granules and deforming the shingles in any way can shorten the lifespan of the roofing. Conduit Penetration Flashing Instructions Installation Tools Required: tape measure, caulking gun, roof material & EPDM compatible sealants, drill with paddle bit, hook blade, hammer, roofing nails WARNING: Quick Mount PV products are NOT designed for and should NOT be used to anchor fall protection equipment. 1 Mark center of rafter. Using the flashing as a template, mark the drill point so the flashing reaches up into the 3rd shingle course. Drill your conduit hole next to the rafter so you can secure the conduit below the roof surface (see Drawing 2). For 1/2" conduit, drill 7/8" hole; for 3/4" conduit, drill 1" hole; for 1" conduit, drill 1-1/4" hole. 4 Slide flashing into place over drilled hole and apply a bead of sealant across the top side of the flashing under the 2nd shingle course. Be careful not to rip or tear shingles. 7 Apply a bead of sealant compatible with both the roofing material and EPDM rubber to both the flashing and the conduit in the location of the EPDM collar's final position.* BI 7.2.3-22 3 2 Slide flashing (item 1) into position centering the flashing hole with drilled hole. Remove any nails that prevent getting the flashing into position. Using a hook blade, cut shingle around cone to allow correct placement of flashing. Flashing should not hang over bottom (drip) edge of shingle below. Apply sealant compatible with the roofing material on the underside of the flashing in an upside down U. Under the 3rd course and through the 2nd course, secure flashing with 2 roofing nails at the top corners of the flashing at the nail line. Apply sealant over nail heads. Cut EPDM collar (item 2) to appropriate conduit size (see Drawing 1, Detail A on reverse). Take care to cut a clean, level line. 5 8 Slide collar over the conduit all the way down to the flashing. 6 Your conduit penetration flashing is now complete and ready for additional electrical work. Be sure to secure conduit to rafters below the roof surface per local building codes and NEC code requirements. Quick Mount PV conduit mounts are also available for roof surface conduit attachments. NEC 110.21(B) FIELD MARKING Adhesive fastened signs may be acceptable if properly adhered. Vinyl signs shall be weather resistant. IFC 605.11.1.3 The label shall be suitable for the environment where it is installed.
