HOLIDAY CLOSURES
Monday, September 4, 2017 - Labor Day
Monday, October 9, 2017 - Columbus Day
UPCOMING EVENTS
President’s Message
The year is flying by and I am amazed that another Labor Day is upon
us. While many of you may be looking forward to barbecues and
perhaps the last hoorah of summer, I encourage you to pause and
remember what the holiday is all about. Labor Day was enacted to
pay tribute to the efforts workers have made to the strength,
prosperity and well-being of our country. So, as you enjoy that burger
or cannon ball into your pool this weekend, take a moment to give
yourself a pat on the back for all of your hard work!
Likewise, I’d like to give our dedicated employees a little recognition.
They have led NorthStar Credit Union to be a strong organization
focused on the prosperity and well-being of our members. Each and
every member of our team puts forth exceptional effort and lives out
the credit union philosophy of people helping people. At the end of
the day, we all know that we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you!
Is there a NorthStar employee that you feel has truly made a
difference in your life? I would love to hear your story! Submit a 5
Star Service survey at NSCU.org/5starservice today or if you’re
feeling more adventurous, feel free to post a review on our Facebook
page.

Another day, another scam. Case in point: the Federal Reserve Bank of
New York reports that scammers are telling people they can pay their
bills using so-called “secret accounts” or “Social Security trust accounts”
and routing numbers at Federal Reserve Banks. In exchange for
personal information, like Social Security numbers, people get what they
think is a bank account number at a Federal Reserve Bank. But this
really is just a way to get your personal information, which scammers
can then sell or use to commit fraud, like identity theft.
It’s good to keep in mind that people do not have accounts at Federal
Reserve Banks. Only banks can bank at the Federal Reserve. But what
happens if you try to use this “secret” account? Well, the Federal
Reserve Bank will deny the payment, since you don’t really have an
account there. Once the payment is rejected, you’ll be notied that you
still owe the money – which is about when you might gure out that this
was a scam. At that point, you may owe a late fee or penalty to the
company you thought you were paying. You also may owe fees to your
bank for returned or rejected payments.
If you see a video, text, email, phone call, yer, or website that
describes how you can pay bills using a Federal Reserve Bank routing
number or account, report it to the FTC. It’s a scam. And remember:
never give your credit card, bank account, or Social Security number
to anyone who calls or emails and asks for it – no matter who they say
they are.

In the Community
It’s been a very eventful August! We started off the month by attending National Night Out in Warrenville,
Plaineld, Naperville and Aurora. We volunteered at Summer Daze, drove on over to cruise night in Plaineld,
played a little golf at the Bower Elementary PTA night in Warrenville, and took some photos at St. Irene’s Fun Fair
in Warrenville! We also held our annual Community Picnic in Warrenville.
