Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for body functioning and muscle activity.

Carbohydrates are needed for the control of protein and fat metabolism.

If you eat a lot of carbs then the glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream, which makes the sugar level in the blood go up.

  • How much should one have of this nutrient?

The greatest percentage of our diet should come from carbohydrates, about 55-60%.

Carbohydrates are the main source of energy and are the most efficient at making energy.

Fats

  • What is it?

Fats are the most concentrated form of energy from the foods we eat. 

  • How does it help the body?

Fats are a secondary source of energy when carbohydrate sources are used up. They also act as carriers for some vitamins.

  • How can it hurt the body?

Such body fats may lead to obesity that can then set off many other health issues like breathing difficulties, arthritis and heart disease.

  • How much should one have of this nutrient?

Fats should not provide more than 30% of your daily calorie intake, and less than 10% of the 30% should be from saturated fats. 1% or less of your diet should include trans fats.

Carbohydrates and proteins will change to stored fat when they are not used. 

Proteins

  • What is it?

Protein is the main building material for blood, skin, hair, nails, organs and muscles.

Protein is used as a fuel source only when carbohydrate and fat supplies are not enough.

If you eat to much protein the excess protein is used to provide your body with energy or turned into fat. so you can gain weight if you exceed the use of protein.

10-15% of our diet should be made up of protein.

Protein is composed of twenty two amino acids, eight of which the body can not produce and must be eaten. These are called essential amino acids.

Vitamins

  • What is it?

Any of a group of organic compounds that are essential for normal growth and nutrition and are required in small quantities in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the body.

  • How does it help the body?

Vitamins help in the development of body structures. They help convert fat and carbohydrates into energy.  

  • How can it hurt the body?

Too much vitamin C or zinc could cause nausea, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. if you eat too much vitamins it can be like overdosing.

  • How much should one have of this nutrient?

Since people do not eat perfectly every day, many experts advise people to take a multivitamin supplement to fill in the gaps that we miss.

There are two types of vitamins, fat soluble and water soluble.

Minerals 

  • What is it?

Minerals occur in the environment and are absorbed up the food chain into plants and animals.

  • How does it help the body?

They help with metabolism, biological reactions, water balance, hormone production, and bone development.

This is very similar to vitamins, Too much vitamin C or zinc could cause nausea, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.

You should have at least 1000 milligrams.

  All minerals important to human functioning can not be made by the body and have to be supplied by the human diet. 

Water 

  • What is it?

A colorless, transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms.

Water helps gives structure and form to the body, it allows an environment necessary for cell metabolism, and provides a way for the body to maintain temperature.

Water is the best thing you can have, it doesn't affect the body in any bad way, if anything it will have to make you go to the bathroomW

  • How much should one have of this nutrient?

You should definitely drink a gallon of water a day.
