Step 2: Teach Lesson
Have student watch both videos before starting the lesson. This will give the student an idea of what to do during the lesson.
Today we are going to do some fun things with this bag of counters. We are going to learn about classifying and patterns.
Do you remember from the video what is to classifying, and pattern? Allow student to respond. Then acknowledge students
answer by agreeing or giving the correct answer.
Give a bag to the student and have them open it, and play with them for a minute (free exploration).
Put the fruit counters to the side where the student can’t see them and ask students, What kinds of fruits are in the jars?
Using interactive writing, write the names of the fruits on the board.
Bring back the bag of counters and ask the student to sort the fruits by kind.
Ask the student to make a pattern using the fruits. Record the pattern so they can remember what it was using a piece of black paper
and pattern block stickers.
Name the pattern using either color, ABC, or something else. Have the student share the pattern and tell what it’s name is, such as
color (yellow, green, green), alphabet letter (ABAB) or name of fruit (banana, strawberry, banana, strawberry).
Have the student complete the worksheets below for extra practice.
