Lyn Zelen Theatre people 4 5 5 If you like a solid script and want to explore the depths of your own morality this is the play for you Playwright Michael Griffith has written a striking character driven play filled with family secrets and fractured relationships that asks What would you do Place a parent in a nursing home or help them end their suffering On a deeper level it begs the question should euthanasia be legalised in Australia Gathered in the living room of their mother s house Jack will try to convince his two sisters to take the life of their mother Ultimately the only one who can either stop him or give him the green light will be you because this play has two endings and you vote for the one you feel under the circumstances is correct But the decision will be difficult for this grey play mirrors our currently grey coloured world In their mother s old age Alzheimer s has set in and Jack is confident her last moments of joy and clarity fled long ago together with her soul and sanity When Mum was first diagnosed with Alzheimer s she told them that she did not want to forget who they were She told them she d rather be dead Let her go Place her in a home Charged with the fear of judgement regardless of which way you vote watching to see if the hands rise around you is a fascinating experience and thrusts you into an exhilarating discomfort OPENS Griffith s insightful script permits truly outstanding and convincing performances He includes a poignant moment of comic relief to dissipate the volatile emotions filling the room 14 FEB Wednesday 14 February 8 00pm Thursday 15 February 2 00pm Thursday 15 February 8 00pm Friday 16 February 8 00pm Saturday 17 February 2 00pm Saturday 17 February 8 00pm NON SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 49 00 Concession Groups 8 44 00 SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 39 00 Concession 34 00 EARLY BIRD Adult 44 00 Concession Groups 8 39 00 Running Time 70mins no interval Written Directed by Michael Griffith Featuring Ezra Bix as Jack Rohana Hayes as Deborah Ruth Katerelos as Vicky Stage Design Ady Chisholm This play is universal It will challenge you 5

A delightful and blissfully funny play that generates a rare glow of warmth and generous laughter Daily Telegraph A classic excellent night s entertainment Recommended Diana Simmonds Stagenoise Glorious By Peter Quilter 14
The Independent A classic excellent night s entertainment American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins was both the worst and best known soprano in New York City in the early 1940s Glorious is the play that inspired the acclaimed movie released last year Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant In the 1940s the singer everyone wanted to see perform live in New York was the enthusiastic soprano Florence Foster Jenkins the first lady of the sliding scale Surrounding herself with devoted friends almost as eccentric as she this deliciously happy and delusional woman paid scant attention to her critics and would screech and warble to her audiences most falling about with laughter This is the voice of which the great Enrico Caruso a fan once said he had never before heard it s like There is something at once mesmerising and sublime about listening to a pair of vocal cords in search of a note finding it losing it again and continuing on a meandering path to approximation And when the singing is carried out with the supreme and serene confidence it is simply breathtaking This heart warming comedy moves from Florence s charity recitals and lavish balls through to her very odd recording sessions and her ultimate performance triumph at New York s Carnegie Hall incorporating her wonderfully colourful relationships along the way The show premiered in London s West End in November 2005 and received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination as Best New Comedy and has since been seen by two million plus people across six continents OPENS A lunatically funny play that will keep you very happy A glittering comedy with a heart 02 MAY Wednesday 2 May 8 00pm Thursday 3 May 10 30am Thursday 3 May 8 00pm Friday 4 May 8 00pm Saturday 5 May 2 00pm Saturday 5 May 8 00pm Sunday 6 May 5 00pm NON SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 54 00 Concession Groups 8 49 00 SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 44 00 Concession 39 00 EARLY BIRD Adult 49 00 Concession Groups 8 44 00 Running Time 2hrs including interval Director Denny Lawrence Producer Christine Harris HIT Productions Set Lighting Costume Design Sophie Woodward Jacob Battista Featuring Diana McLean 15

JURASSICA by Dan Giovannoni I am not fully Italian or fully Australian and despite ignoring my family heritage for a long time I don t think I can really understand my family unless I understand what they went through how they were raised Dan Giovannoni Starring Joe Petruzzi Olga Makeeva Caroline Lee 20
Anne Marie Peard SMH A story of families of migration of growing old and of dinosaurs but not the prehistoric kind Jurassica is a story of family migration language and growing old It is a heart warming tale told with humour and pathos and spoken in both English and Italian It s also about dinosaurs but not necessarily those from pre historic times Performed in Italian as well as English Giovannoni s exquisite play provides a very contemporary perspective on the universal themes of displacement home and how our past shapes our future Ralph and Sara migrated from Tuscany in the 1950s to their concrete frontyard house in suburban Moorabbin Their son Ichlis never really forgave them for his misunderstood name and grandson Luca is struggling to talk with his father or grandfather Until one night Ralph is rushed to hospital and through an unlikely connection with Kaja an interpreter Luca learns to reconnect Developed during his time as Resident Writer at Red Stitch with Dramaturge Gary Abrahams Dan Giovannoni s magical new play Jurassica weaves the past and present together exploring what it is to migrate to be displaced and to spend the rest of your life searching for home Most of all this is a play about the importance of family and about mending fences before you grow too old OPENS Honest and heartfelt performances that ensure the fragments of memory gently question and shape the present 19 SEP Wednesday 19th September 8 00pm Thursday 20 September 8 00pm Friday 21 September 8 00pm Saturday 22 September 2 00pm Saturday 22 September 8 00pm NON SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 54 00 Concession Groups 8 49 00 SUBSCRIBER TICKETS Adult 44 00 Concession 39 00 EARLY BIRD Adult 49 00 Concession Groups 8 44 00 Running Time 2hrs including interval Audience Advice Suitable for audiences 14 Director Bridget Balodis Composer Sound Ian Moorhead Dramaturg Gary Abrahams Set Costumes Romanie Harper Lighting Amelia Lever Davidson Jurassica has been patiently crafted like Nonna s perfect slow cooked pork The Age 21
