Chance Camp returned for the first time of 2018 during the
Feb half term break for a week of multi sports at Netherhall.
20 children braved the freezing conditions to develop their sport skills, to make new
friends and to have lots of fun! We had some new Didi Stars experiencing Chance
Camp for the first time. They came after enjoying a taster lesson that Amy provided
the local schools before the camp began. This was to give children an opportunity to
see what Chance Camp is about and what we do here. All of our newbie's did really
well, worked hard and got on well with everyone. We look forward to seeing them
again at future camps.
During the week we covered a variety of different sports as tennis, football, basket-
ball and rugby. This meant that in the morning sessions we developed skills such as
throwing and catching, passing, striking and dodging. This then led into the
afternoon competitions, where the children put the developed skills into practice.
We also played a lot of team games such as dodgeball, kabadi and capture the flag.
These games are great as they give children the opportunity to be creative, come up
with tactics/ strategies in order to score points and win the
games. We also looked for our All Stars to take more of a
leadership role during the games. They were tasked with
deciding team roles during games, coming up with rule
changes to activities and keeping the groups motivation
high with great sportsmanship.
All of the children did a fan-
tastic job and worked their
socks off. Definitely some
tired bodies by the end of the
week! Well done Everyone!!

Barnardo’s
Amy was given the opportunity to work with a group of children on behalf of the charity
Bernardo’s. Similar to Ross, Amy tasked the group with games based to develop the chil-
dren’s coordination, balance and agility. The children also took part in small team games
and had to solve problems and challenges, therefore developing their teamwork and com-
munication skills. Finally the children had the opportunity to be creative and come up
with their own games that kept everybody active. Amy said “I’d like to thank Barnardo’s
for allowing me to work with such a lovely group of children and
providing me with such a warm welcome. I really enjoyed the
morning, playing the games in such a fun and friendly
environment”
Didi Star Camp @ Fairfield Primary School
This half term we decided to branch out and run a selection of sports camps around
Allerdale, to give children as much opportunity as possible to be active during the weeks
break. Ross was in charge of a camp at Fairfield Primary School which was running for
the very first time. Aimed for children between the ages of 4-7
years old, Ross delivered lots of activities and games throughout
the 3 days that were based on improving co-ordination, balance
and agility. Ross said “The camp was a great success as we had
lots of Chance Camp regulars as well as some new faces trying
Chance Camp for the first time. We also had some older brothers
and sisters that came along to the camp to help lead and play the
games with the group. We all had lots of fun and I was very
pleased with how the 3 days went”
This term Ross has also started a new programme with Fairfield Primary School. “Active
Families” takes place on Saturday mornings and is aimed for children aged 2+. An adult
(Mum, Dad, Guardian, Granda, Grandma) that accompanies the child joins in the session
and completes the challenges set with the child. The aim of the programme is to promote
and encourage activity as a family. Each week the group focus’ on different skills and if
they are able to complete them then the family will have their activity passport stamped
as reward. The adults are then given some activity challenges for the week ahead to prac-
tice with the children before the next session. Active Families is going really well and is
receiving excellent reviews from parents. Session times as
follows:
9.00-9.45am ages 2-4 (preschool)
9.45-10.30am Reception-Year 1
10.30-11.15 School Years 2-6
