I had very good marks but did
not test well. I chose to start at
a Community College because
I can start immediately without
entry tests and transfer to top U.S.
Universities. I now have admission

7 REASONS
To Study at U.S.
Community Colleges
1
LOWER TUITION COST
Tuition and fees cost
signicantly less at community
colleges than at four-year
colleges and universities. The
average cost of community
college tuition in the U.S. ranges
from $5,000 to $9,000 per
academic year. Students can
expect to save $20,000 to
$90,000 over the course of
their education.
2
TRANSFER TO TOP 100
UNIVERSITIES
Most international students
are unable to start at top U.S.
universities. But starting at a
community college enables
students to transfer to and
graduate from those top
universities, as well as other
great universities.
3
LOWER ENGLISH
PROFICIENCY
REQUIREMENTS
Community colleges require
lower scores on English
prociency tests, or can waive
the requirements entirely for
students who participate in
Intensive English Programs
(IEPs). Many community
colleges oer IEPs to students
who need to learn English
or need additional English
prociency.
*Exact English prociency
requirements will vary, and
not all colleges oer Intensive
English Programs. More
information can be found on the
college’s website.
4
APPROACHABLE
TEACHERS WITH
EXCELLENT CREDENTIALS
Community colleges emphasize
teaching rather than research.
Community college students
can enjoy a great deal of
personal attention from their
professors; extra help and
support are available when they
need it.
5
TWO YEARS OF
OPTIONAL PRACTICAL
TRAINING OPT
International students with F-1
visa status may be eligible to
complete one year of practical
training in their elds after
completing an associate degree.
They also have the option of
one more year after completing
a bachelors degree.
6
FLEXIBLE ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS: NO SAT/
ACT NEEDED
Many community colleges do not
require standardized admissions
tests. Instead, they have
placement tests for students to
take upon arrival, after orientation
and before course registration.
7
EXCELLENT STUDENT
SUPPORT SERVICES
Community colleges make
students’ success a mission, and
it shows through the assistance
and services they oer.
www.2plus2.org
6
The 2+2 Path
2+2 is a process that allows students to start their education
at a community college and nish at a four-year college or
university. By transferring the rst 2 years of community college
credits to a four-year college/university, students can graduate
with a bachelors degree at a much lower cost.

ACCREDITATION
by one of the 6 Regional Accreditation
Agencies is a MUST!
All top U.S. Colleges are accredited by one of the 6 regional accreditation
agencies. Accreditation allows transfer of credit from one institution to
another. An accredited institution will not recognize a degree from a non-
accredited institution.
Colleges that have been through the accreditation process are more likely to
oer degrees that employers and recruiters recognize.
Be aware that national accreditation is NOT equivalent to regional
accreditation. National accreditation has no bearing on the quality of a
college, nor does it guarantee transfer to a four-year university.
All of the U.S. Community Colleges in this publication have been regionally
accredited by one of the 6 accreditation agencies.
