Background
Swansea ITeC was formed as a limited company in April 1996; however, the roots of the organisation were established in 1984 as the Swansea Information Technology Centre, an organisation underwritten by 3M UK Ltd, West Glamorgan County Council and Swansea City Council.
The company was formed by virtue of a ‘management buyout’, the result of local government re-organisation. The challenge of becoming an S.M.E in its own right was readily met by the current workforce most of which are shareholders in the company owning the majority share.
The culture of business markets, products, customers and clients has been absorbed into the company to the effect that the organisation is now totally customer focused.
In 2009 Swansea ITeC and 6 other like-minded training organisations within the West Wales region joined as a consortium in order to offer a stronger bid for forthcoming WBL contracts, the consortium was later joined by 3 other WBL training organisations from the Merthyr / Rhondda area and Skills Academy Wales (SAW) Academi Sgiliau Cymru (ASC) was formed. A successful tender bid was delivered and a contract duly awarded for the period 2011-2014. Tenders for this current period were also successful and a ‘transitional, contract has been awarded from August 2014 to April March 2015 when a new 3 year contract start commences in April 2015 accommodating the Welsh Government (WG)change in funding year.
Swansea ITeC is situated at Carmarthen Road, SA1 1HG, about ½ mile north from the city centre of Swansea on a main bus route with car parking space for all visitors.
Accreditation and expertise
Swansea ITeC was the first training provider in West Wales to win official approval as a training organisation from the now ‘defunct’ West Wales TeC, since then the company has been accredited to deliver training and qualifications from several awarding bodies such as City and Guilds of London, The British Computer Society (BCS-ECDL), OCR and CompTIA. In addition we are recognised by 3Com as a Net Prep (NetworkTrainingAcademy), we are a full member of the National Training Federation Wales, and contracted by the Welsh Government (DfES) for a series of Youth and Adult training programmes. All IT apprenticeship frameworks are qualified by e-skills the sector skills council to which Swansea ITeC is a leading contributor to many of their programmes.
In addition to the above we are an accredited Pearson Vue examination centre conducting on-line testing for bodies such as Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft and other leading bodies.
Our ICT products and Network services are accredited by leading manufacturers Hellermann Tyton and Promethean
Our development ‘ethos’ is underpinned by our Investor in People’ membership.

Here Steve Bain from Pisys.net explains about apprenticeships and how Swansea ITeC have helped him with the recruitment and training of Apprentices for the last 4 years.
The Apprenticeship Matching Service gives employers a free platform to advertise quality apprenticeship vacancies. These can be viewed and applied for nationally by thousands of candidates that register online.
Candidates can search and apply online for vacancies using selected criteria such as geography, occupation, job role and keywords. Employers can advertise and filter applicants more easily in addition to being able to review applications, sift for short-listing and invite candidates for interview, all within your own personal area of the system.
Large employers who only undertake recruitment via their own websites are welcome to advertise their apprentice vacancies on the Apprenticeship Matching Service website, whereby we can provide an option to direct candidates to your website recruitment pages.
