ClearVision Project
Dear Supporter,
We hope this letter nds you well and we are delighted to be bringing you
news of the past 12 months in the life of the ClearVision library. This year
has seen the launch of our new website, the start of our membership wide
evaluation and a brilliant new partnership with the Book Trust to reach out
to thousands of potential new library users.
We currently have nearly a thousand family members who use our postal
library free of charge and 338 schools, Vision Impairment Services and
Libraries who are organisational members of the library for just £50 per
year. Whilst we reach all corners of the UK we know that many families
living with vision impairment still aren’t aware of our work and so to increase
awareness of our service we looked to increase our online presence and
physical visibility through local authority Vision Impairment Services.
The rst step in this was the launch of our
new website in January. This involved the
complete redesign to provide a website which
is clear and easy to navigate for all visitors,
especially those using assistive technology. It
also includes a new online membership
application, making it quicker and easier for
new borrowers to join the library. This has
already proved a great success and we have
seen a considerable increase in membership
applications, particularly from schools.

With our website up and running we were delighted to secure a partnership
with the Book Trust to insert a new ClearVision yer in their Book Touch
pack. The Book Touch Pack is distributed to over 3,500 families with newly
registered vision impaired children via their local authority every year. This
yer has an easy to use free post membership form alongside details of
our work and new website and is being distributed from September 2017
so we look forward to reporting on the results in the coming months.
With an increasing public presence and
rising borrower numbers, we were delight-
ed to receive funding to continue our ‘My-
Home Library’ Project. MyHome Library
distributes four free dual print and braille
books to every new vision impaired child
that joins the ClearVision libray - for them
to keep. We understand that feeling owner-
ship of your books, reading them time and
time again, knowing every nuance of the
page and story is incredibly valuable to a
young child. We want ClearVision readers
to have that bond with books and reading
and are thrilled to be able to continue this
project into 2018.
Unsurprisingly the number of loans has also risen, by an astounding 66%
over the past four years to nearly 9,000 loans per year. In light of this
growing need we are keen to evaluate the true impact of our books so we
can improve our services where necessary and help potential funders un-
derstand the importance of ClearVision’s work.To enable us to do this our
Board undertook a randomised telephone survey of all our family
borrowers soliciting their feedback on the service we provide and their
ideas for the future of the ClearVision library. The responses we have had
have been very encouraging. Importantly, they will ensure that our future
direction is driven by the needs of our borrowers. Encouraged by this we
are embarking on an online survey of all our family membership into the
impact of our books on literacy, wellbeing and family relationships and we
look forward to reporting back to you on this next year.
Now one of the constant questions we receive is: what books are in your
library? With over 14,000 books in our catalogue we are always more than
happy to nd books to suit your needs, based on topic, age, braille level or
even a specic title or author. To give you a taster of the selection we hold
we have included a snapshot of our favourites in this newsletter and very
much hope to be able to take our full catalogue online in the coming years.
Finally you may wonder why this newsletter is coming from me and not
Alex? Well, I am delighted to announce that Alex and her husband
welcomed the newest addition to their family in April and so myself,
Hannah our new Director of Fundraising and the brilliant Pat are holding
the fort for her while Alex spends some precious time with her family.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or we can help in
anyway and thank you for your interest and support of ClearVision’s work.
A ClearVision book opens the door on new worlds for its readers, from
the comfort of their own home it take families on shared adventures that
re the imagination and create unique experiences that last forever. We
couldn’t create these family moments without your help and encourage-
ment so from us all - thank you!
With very best wishes and wishing you
a happy holidays from the whole team
and all the Trustees at ClearVision!

Acting ClearVision Director

Every year we aim to create around 600 new books to add desperately needed
new titles to our shelves and replace much loved old favourites in our library and
without your support we can’t continue to meet the rising demand for our books.
Books can be sponsored as presents, in memory of a loved one or to
commemorate an event and each is valued, loved and read time and time again.
*Whilst we endeavour to produce as many, and more, books as are sponsored the quantity of specic book
types is dependent on transcriber and title availability. Therefore, on very rare occasions, the type of book you
sponsor may change subject to availability. If this is of concern please contact us directly and we will ensure
your sponsorship is kept until the correct book type becomes available.
